    :dupe:So.

What exactly are y'all expecting from Obama's win?

That the Pro-Choice issue will fall on your side?
Obama is PRO-LIFE!!! (Find your own sources ~ start with the Bible Belt states, and what he had to say, there) :dupe: owned!

That taxes won't rise for the "common man?"
Check out how he's changed his stance on the level at which someone is considered "rich" ~ went from $250,000 GROSS, to $150K, gross. Wow. Now we're talking about our neighbors. Our bosses. The very businesses WE work for. Oops! Can't afford YOU...

    Free Healthcare? ROFLMAO
Have y'all checked out what "Free/Nationalized Healthcare" consists of? It's PRODUCTION LINE Healthcare ~ have tonsilitis? Oh, well, you're # 648 on the WAITING list for SURGERY. Unless, of course, you go into some sort of MAJORLY serious life-or-death type of reaction... Then, you'll be "worked in."

And if it's your child? How angry will YOU be with being treated just like every other Joe Blow, who has 2.5 (or w/e it is, these days) brats that will, sooner or later, need this procedure/operation?

How will YOU like being treated like A Number? Just another cog in the wheel that makes the whole go 'round.

And y'all were the HIPPIES??? Y'all were the REACTIONARIES that changed things, way back when???

Wow. i think they died, or at least divorced themselves from the likes of y'all, 'cuz you don't really stand for anything, do you?

But, Hey! On the UpSide ~ y'all seem to FALL for EVERYTHING...

What do you have to offer of value to anyone...you're just another negative mouth howling to hear your own miserable noise...hoping to drag others down to you level. Who needs you?!

First off I live with nationalised Health care and it rocks *cough* (nowadays).

    Obama:

    Epic Rhetoric
    God like status
Millions blinded by an empty word (change)
A fair duplication of Bush but this time people will love him and think everything he does is super.
Critics of Bush will become cheerleaders of Obama.

I was expecting to go 24 hours after an historic victory without hearing the same ole crap about how bad Obama is.

Didn't you conservative fucks tell us to "love it or leave it?"
Now it is our chance to live in a country we love, without a president we despise.

Take a hit of your own schpiel "love it or leave it!" What? Don't want to go to Canada? Good, they probably wouldn't take you anyways. Grow a pair and move to Mexico if you wanna keep bitching.

    Ok, I'll go with that.

I (along with many others) hope he will:
    End "The War on Terror".
End "The Drug War" (and change the way Addicts are treated).
    Immediately close Guantanamo Bay.
"Bring The Troops (not just combat troops) Home" (Iraq AND Afghanistan).
Remove any actual or perceived loopholes in: Executive Order: Interpretation of the Geneva Conventions Common Article 3 as Applied to a Program of Detention and Interrogation Operated by the Central Intelligence Agency.
Help more than the "Middle Classes".
That'll keep his first year pretty busy.
If he gets that done or atleast strives for that in a meaningful and honest way...that will be REAL change.

Hopefully not directed at me, but, I'll respond anyway.

I'm not really on the Obama bandwagon so forgive my early cynicism...

I would not pigeon hole myself as a "Conservative".

I did not say Obama was bad.

I do fully appreciate this historic moment in time, I truly do.
But, at the time of posting I had heard about 6 hours of him, his fans and it seemed half the world gushing about him.
It all basically boiled down to this headline: Obama's new America -
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008...-obama-lincoln
He has an awful lot to live up to.

His words could be fairly accurately aligned with what Bush has said over the years.
IMO regardless of if he actually brings about any real change, people will interprete and spin his "achievments" a lot more favourably than they ever did with Bush.
His actions will be perceived in a completely different way, regardless of how positive or negative they actually are.
No more talk of: War for Oil / American Imperialism / War mongering etc etc etc .

    Anyhoo:
Good Luck Obama - your gonna need it.

like i've stated elsewhere, Obama is a statesman, clearly able to think through a long term strategy and implement it. this is no time for stupid mistakes in the service of short term political posturing.

you don't undermine the current president anymore than you need to as a candidate. as president elect, I am assuming he will pull back even more. this is a breath of fresh air. we've had enough of ideologues.

Obama and ideology go hand in hand...he has ideology coming out of his ass...

    Assume away...

    you mistake my meaning.

I'm not referring to you undermining the president. the power of my voice, and yours, is inconsequential. Obama now has the bully pulpit, and he has to be careful. i'm referring to obama undermining the president, who has undermined himself enough as it is.

Yes, he has ideology coming out of his ass.

He is also clearly a pragmatist who can follow a long term strategy in the service of those ideals, rather than make short term tactical flourishes that in the end don't serve the long term goals.

less of a love-in, more of an analysis of a two year campaign to become president with an unprecedented amount of discipline. They stayed on message and made very few mistakes, while opponent after opponent was reduced to flailing about and internal backbiting.

Agree or disagree with his policy goals, but don't make the mistake of "misunderestimating" the man.

I'm not a democrat, I'm a green. It's going to be an uphill battle to get Obama to keep some promises, and I predict an approval rating below 45% by the second year of his presidency. Tough times ahead, my friend.

I'll happily eat my words if I am wrong.
What I said would show real change.
But, I won't say he has broken a promise if he has not made that promise.
I'm neutral on his policies...But, I just hope he follows through with them.
I don't want his supporters to be blinded by his light and ignore the reality over the dream...if that dream fails.

    Indeed.

If you happily eat your words later, i will happily buy you the drink to wash them down.

God knows if we get anything done it will be the end result of a long slog, and I'll need a drink.

you know what, women have a RIGHT to the affairs of their own body. keep your bs christianity out of my State, thank you very much.

hmmm....new taxes for people making 150k. now CEO's have to get a used lamborghini instead of a brand new one? trickle down economics doesnt work for this very reason: people spend a good portion on expensive luxuries that don't have much economic impact. Obama is very small business friendly: new tax breaks for them and they'll lose most of the burden of employee health care. (Don't call me a socialist; I come from a family that owns two pharmacies, 3 one or more million dollar homes, land, and over 12 cars including a ferrari modena 360. I can just see that the little guy needs much more help than the rich)

hey buddy, you don't even know obama's health care plan. Obama will still allow private insurances for those that can afford it, along with private health institutions. He'll just provide for those that can't afford....if they have to wait a bit, it'll at least be better than having no health care at all.

education is wonderful. you should partake in it.

But you said Obama believed in infanticide. I hope we do get Nationalized Healthcare so you can be cured of you C.R.I. S. aka Cranial Rectal Inversion Syndrome.
