    Well
    we are back to 1940
Yes nukes are.. but they also are not.
No-one wants to use them. they spoil the fun.
Thus again it's all steel and bullets, artillery and balls,
    but in a corporate world.
    Look at iraq/afghanistan

Men on the ground weilding guns.
It's what it always seems to come to.
Now its live on camera when you can 'hack' it
or just reports like UK sniper teams with 400 kills.

Men, and now women LOVE guns and viscerial engagement.
    it is our nature.
The upper leg bone of an antelope is no longer our preferred weapon.
    Now its an f22Raptor, barrett .50, a h&kmp5 or a Kbar.
But the feelng is the same.

I don't think you can compare today's conflicts with the events of 1940 at all,
the weaponry maybe similar, but the method of fighting very much different.

The fact that the "enemy" is not easily identifiable and that the a lot of the war is being fought so close to the civilian population in both theatres of operation makes them very different. I also think the motivation and mentality of the Soldiers, Sailor and Airmen invloved is fundamentally different from the 1940's.

People are much better educated on the whole especially in the UK military (I'm possibly a little biassed) than they were in the past and so they have a better understanding of the implications and impact of their action.

What about terrorists? Not the al quieda and all the middle eastern groups, but what about the crazed or maybe even sane individuals in the usa and europe that are mad at the system and try to make a difference(well their own way anyway) by shooting up public places.

Also, gangs, the gangs influence alot of society. I don't think wars are even like the 1940s either.

And lets hope it is that 'understanding' that has caused the UK to
    'pull it's nose back"
Where i am. Australia. The 'feeling' is the UK does not
    wholely support this iraq/afghan policing.

Volunteer troops DO NOT appreciate being wrongly used.

More like a completion of set objectives.

The last time I checked, there were 140,000 American terrorists working in Iraq. Most of them had been conned into serving American imperialism through "Armed Forces Career Centers" promising paycheques and trades training.
