I haven't eaten meat in the last two days, not because I'm trying to become a vegetarian but because I'm trying to drastically cut the amount of meat I eat cos I feel it can't be healthy the amount I eat. Most people here could be classed as herbivores and up to now I could be really classed as a carnivore. Today I got home and there was a massive spanish chorizo sausage over 1ft long in the fridge and the will power it took not to eat some of it was unreal!! Even in work I've went with the veggie option in the canteen, yesterday was veggie samosas which were okay when dowsed in curry sauce and today I had the veggie canneloni verdi which was nice. Anyway basically do vegetarians even find it hard sometimes to resist eating meat. I think why I find it harder is because 1) I'm used to eating alot of meat and 2) The whole animal on a plate thing doesn't bother me.
Nope. Not hard, especially when you have good alternatives. I found I stopped even thinking of it as food after a while, but that'll be different for you if you keep eating a little of it. Plus there's things like veggie burgers. You have to learn to cook. Seriously. I wouldn't go near a kitchen before, but after going veg I started to enjoy cooking because of all the truly tasty stuff I can make.
it was hard for about the first two weeks, after that it was fine. it's been 4 years now. i'm so disgusted by the thought of an animal going through that kind of torture to satisfy a human want that i don't even see meat as edible. it sickens me. like the person above me said you really need to learn to cook. there's some really good veggi cookbooks out there and veggi burgers/hotdogs/bacon that taste a lot like meat but are death-free. good luck!
I'm not a vegetarian, but as a challenge to myself, I'm eating vegetarian for a full month, to see if I could do it. So far it's been a week, and actually...I feel healthier, and I've lost weight. I find I'm not really craving meat either (maybe once, but I have good will power...haha). Actually, the thought of going back to eating meat doesn't really thrill me...but that'll probably change. Nothing like a good old-fashioned self-challenge...haha...
Right after I found out about the meat industry I stopped eating meat. I didn't get any cravings at all because I knew what was done to the animals. And I've never craved meat since.
yeah I had a few cravings for the taste of chicken (espcially my mum's chicken curry) but the whole animal-on-a-plate thing really bothers me, so even though I'd like the taste, I couldn't actaully chew on a piece of dead bird and enjoy it. So, i guess the horror of what happend to the animal outweighs the cravings. And, like someone said, four years later I wouldn't even dream of chowing down on meat. Yet, as you said, that doesn't bother you as much - so maybe the best way around it is to just go for the tastiest vego stuff available, whether it is meat alternatives, or highly flavoured recipies, to replace the cravings with something much tastier. A great web site is www.vegweb.com, if you look under the recirpe headings you will find heaps of really really good veg dishes and quite a few that can substitute for meat.
The first month was hell, I didn't know if I was going to make it. Some handle it better than others, but all I wanted was a bucket of KFC. *oops* I'm guilty, but I'm over it now.
Never really craved meat, maybe at first but perhaps that was just because it was a habit of sorts. Eventually I was too far gone mentally to even consider it a food product. Took a month or so. Stick with it, does get easier.
