I understand that for sure, I guess most people just like to think in somewhat of a collective sense so that everything doesn't seem completely pointless.

It won't matter directly, but indirectly you still affect and have the ability to inspire thousands of people in your lifetime. Then what they extract from you gets transferred to others.
It's all circular and cyclical, just like everything in existance.

That's precisely what I'm afraid of, loss of consciousness.

naw, just suicide in general. Thats the only way to take your death into your own hands.
    Though, I'm NOT advocating suicide!

Why not? Anyone who follows your suggestion won't complain to you later. Consider the next post. He fears old age more than death. He can avoid old age by taking his life with his own hands.

It's fucked up how much I've thought about this topic the past week. Usually I get this anxiety pang and I usually get over it real quickly but damn, this got to me this time.

Dude, I didn't read the rest of the thread - you're not dying of a brain tumor or anything, are you? If you are you get to have whatever crazy thoughts you want.

I think you're a cool guy, Mr. Mojo. As a hardcore atheist, I find it really uplifting to believe that there's no afterlife. It means this is it: no second-guessing, no Plan B. All you got to do is have fun and do the right thing, right now. I do think life is difficult! But it feels like it would be tougher if I thought there was a whole 'nother one I had to worry about.

Not trying to dis on religion - if that helps you out, I'm not the guy to fight with you about it - but I'm truly perplexed by the idea that if this life is all you get, that's sad. I'm terribly happy with this world. I'm ready to fight for it. I think this world is good enough.

And people do seem to like you an awful lot here, Mojo. I assume they like you elsewhere too.

At 17 I had my first panic attack related to the fear of death.

Then the angst took different shapes (dizzy spells, generalized anxiety, protracted bouts of depression, agoraphobia, social anxiety, suicidal behavior, insomnia)--

I thought it had gone away. But not really...in a way all of it is still related to fear of death.

So don't worry, it gets worse. ;)

Why can't I state a fact without without someone calling it a suggestion. Didn't I say that I'm not in favor of suicide. Your right about one thing though. No one who takes they're life will be complaining to anyone later.:(

Are you sure you're not using your fear of death to focus your attention away from the fact that life is empty, meaningless and absurd and infinitely more frightening than death will ever be?

Address what you must right now.

No, I'm in excellent health. Thanks for the other kind words. :)

You're such a good pal.

I'm too self-centered to even dream about ever losing my consciousness for an extended period of time like, say, forever.

    Sorry for getting defensive.

    Mr Mojo Risin,
Please don't think that I am promoting suicide. Thats the worst option for any problem, because its irreversable.
I think about this stuff all the time too, but I don't really get to much out of it except more stressed out. I really hate the idea of losing conciousness for ever. I can take some comfort in the fact that I'm really lucky, if you compare me to all the other humans who have lived and are living today. I have a pretty good life, all my real needs are met on a daily basis, I have a job, and I'm free to do what I want to do(for the most part).
Another thing I take comfort in is that, the richest and most powerful people in the world have to deal with the same post-life as everyday guys like us.

What? Why would I wanna kill myself if I'm scared of dying? Suicide is not even an option.

I guess that other stuff should be comforting..
