i dont know all the details, but theres something wrong with her shoulder and its been hurting her so badly that she cant even open jars by herself. the surgery should fix it, but recovery will be anywhere from one month (if all goes as planned) to six months (if they find other things wrong in her shoulder that they were previously unaware of an have to fix them) its pretty minor, standard work, and theres nothing major that can really go wrong, but it still worries me.
You coming back soon for the holidays? My grandma is in the hospital 3 blocks from my house, I think I will go see her in a little while
yes, i'm returning on saturday my father and i (hopefully mostly i) will be doing most of the cooking. they usually split it 50/50 more or less, but i trust me cooking more than him for many things i called her to wish her well just now, and i'll be happy to come home and see her. and i'll make her lunch and stuff till shes up and feeling well enough to do things on her own more. you should go see your grandma, i'm sure it would make her very happy
Assuming she is conscious I think she would be. She has been sedated for maybe 6 weeks now, and is just starting to occasionally wake up.
I hope everything goes well. It doesnt sound like a scary surgery. Now you and your dad just need to take good care of her
thanks, me too. she is a very kind, very reasonable, hard working and intelligent woman, and i hate to see her in pain. i hope she recovers quickly so she can get on with her normal life
we will its not very scary, but its not going to be fun for her. shes probably just going under anasthesia now, actually its not scary though. my dad had a tumor the size of a tennis ball removed from his spine, and it was a six-eight hour operation, with us in the waiting room the whole time. THAT was a scary operation - they wouldnt be able to tell us if it was cancer or not until after the operation, iirc (it wasn't, and he's fine now, and after several years addicted to painkillers for the nerve damage caused by the surgery, he's off them and doing well again!)
My grandmother has been in the hospital for 6 weeks now too. Stroke, couple days later, heartattack. paralyzed on her left side. They had to put a feeding tube and trake in her until she can be rehabilitated. She went to rehab today. I hope your grandma is ok! I hope your mama is ok too Nesta. Do you think you guys will try to meet up when Nesta is in town?
I wouldn't mind meeting Nesta for a beer sometime My grandma also has a trake and feeding tube, and she now also has a colostomy bag, which we don't believe she knows of yet. When she went into emergency surgery after her heart surgery, my grandpa considered letting her die because she said she never wanted to live with one, but my dad talked him out of it
How do you feel about it? It's a good think I wasn't involved because I don't believe in medical science being for betterment in all cases. And considering the age and amount of rehabilitation it will require for her to be half ok again, I would have let her go. Watching my mom for 20 years has really made me a bit jaded.
talking about has convinced me to jump in the shower and go see her right now, after all its a 3 minute walk. Everything was going ok after the original surgery, and a complication that rarely happens, but is 95% fatal occurred, but she did survive. Honestly, she was doing ok even before the first surgery, but they said she would die within 2 years due to a heart condition. She was very nervous about the surgery, and I assumed everything would be fine, but turns out she was probably too weak to go through with it. i would have a hard time pulling the plug so to speak, but that may turn out to have been the better decision depending on how she recovers. I don't know what tp think... My family is mad at the Cleveland Clinic, supposedly one of the best hospitals in America, because my dad caught them making some mistakes, and one doctor wouldn't give her pain meds, so he found another doctor in the very same hospital who thought that was ridiculous and gave her some
i'm not sure which hospital, she is going home tonight though. but i just got the call. it was a real bad rotator cuff tear, and the surgeon had to do more work than they expected at first, and it will be a long recovery. but it went well, and she is ok
