I'm making a cake for my mom's b-day today, and I hate that heavy frosting crap. I was wondering, has anyone ever mixed whipped cream with it to make it a little lighter and less offensive? That's all we've got and we're out of cash... X-mas and all.

you could mix a meringue frosting (meringue, sugar)

or you could take sugar, softened butter, and whip it into heavy cream

either would be pretty acceptably light

or just whip your store bought frosting, the air bubbles do help (warm it slightly above room temp first, and do be prepared to add a touch of milk)

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the last one the best. More economical under the circumstances...

buy an angel food cake frosting, they are cheap and light... or make a whipped frosting using egg whites.

I love my cool whip frosting.

All you do is mix together a tub of cool whip, whatever flavor instant pudding you desire, and a cup of milk. Mix it all together and there you have it, frosting that doesn't taste nasty.

It is, but I hate how I end up with powder sugar on my lips, but anyways it's very simple you put the powdered sugar in a strainer and shake it over the cake. It looks pretty.

Oh I was referring to mixing the two... someone did that for my baby shower cake two weeks ago. It was heavenly and she put food coloring on it and it was so pretty!

Oh ok. You mean with the egg whites? I always made it with sugar and egg whites, but never used powdered sugar. That does sound fun.

I am pretty sure it was whipped cream and powdered sugar... who knows though.
