Get the bands off the roots. It limits movement which causes knots, and weakens the hair. And dont bother with wax, theres no way for dreads to look good fast, and if there is wax sure isnt part of it.
Take the bands out, and no you can't tell whether you used wax or not because the photos are in black and white. If put them up in colour then maybe we can have a better guess. Not that it matters, if you used wax then I guess you'll continue to use it until you realise it's not actually doing anything other than ruining your hair. You're the one that's going to have problems later if you actually keep them. You cannot create dreads in one day and certainly not with your hair type, chill out and see what they look like in a year's time.
I've never seen someone with bands on boot the roots and the ends. That doesn't make sense to me, it's completely restricted? How can it coil together and knot? It's silly how beginners will still use wax after sincere wise people talk about their own horror stories with wax. So OP, didja wax or not?
I DIDN'T USE WAX!! i feel good with myself that resisted the temptation of wax. i got lots of frizzies and im avoiding getting them wet/washing them. will post some updated colour pics on day 5.
Ah, eventually you'll have to rise it out alittle to get rid of the greasies and debris. It's a common fear to not want to wet them. Good luck!
Good stuff a very wise choice. Your hair will benefit a lot in the future from not using it. You'll see they'll look much knottier and much more dreadlike sometime in the future without wax.
so im 6 days into my dreads and i haven't experienced an itchy head/scalp. is this normal and am i just really lucky? also how long should i wait b4 giving them their first wash?
i get them wet every morning in the shower and wash them with bronners once a week. not a lot of people get an itchy scalp when doing locks. it depends on a lot of things including what you are doing now and what you did before.
