ohhhh k.so my dreads are 2.5 months and I have a question (or 2) first all, how do you prevent them from turning into one big log over time? I know your s'posed to leave em and let your hair do what it wants but I can imagine one big log being totally restrictive >.< 2nd q: as for the roots of my hair (and I'm not sure how to explain this) as my hair is growing it doesn't seem to be forming into the dread it's supposed to. What can I do to make them? My friend who did my dreads (by ripping&rubbing) told me to loop them asd they grow but soaring eagle told me that this will cause em to break? Idk what to do? I love my hair right now but soo don't want it to turn into one big log! Today my Mum was staring at my hair and asked, 'have you washed it recently?' I said that I did yesterday and she said, 'oh maybe that's it' and I said 'what???' 'oh they just look quite matted' I was like....thats what it's supposed to look like lol. Don't think she gets it.

Just rip them apart, sectioning them as you like.
Your dreads will never lock right up to your scalp, you'll probably always have at least an inch or two of loose, fresh growth. The new growth will grow into your dreads. If you were locked up tight at the roots, it would be uncomfortable from pulling on your scalp.

your hair isn't going to turn into a log while you're looking in the other direction for a moment. just separate ones that try to eat each other. you will have a ton of congos form way before any unilock starts to shape up.

if you loop them trough the roots they wont break, they will just look different. If u dont want them to congo just pull them apart every once in a while.

i looped my 1st and it didn't do anything good. all it did was pull the roots tight so there was less space between lock and head. when it locked behind the loop, i got this bump of straight hair that wouldn't lock because the hair was pulled tight. just a waste of time, dont do it.

It also can weaken them and make them prone to breaking further on down the road.

just keep seperating em to prevent congos..
looping doesnt do anything good doing it once wont hurt too much but some ppl do it to try to get the roots to dread right to the scalp and it gets too tight and weakens em alot..and ywea ive heard of loosing whole dreads cause of that

    on the subjecy of congoing
i havent ripped mine hatdly in 6 months now
many have congo'd but not outta control into 1 huge log
you can either rip alot to maintain the size u got or hardly at all to let afew combine and get bigger
just every now and then make sure too many arent combining into 1 huge one and your good

the spot that was looped never really locked, it was just tight straight hair for a while, it felt like a smooth bump.
