Well, Im thinking about getting my hair dreaded, but theres a few things first.

#1 would my hair be long enough to look decent with dreads?

#2 What's the best method of dreading? I heard wax gets it done fast, but ruins your hair, but im not sure as to what method i want to use.

Wax replaces the locking process, it does not help hair to lock it merely sticks the hair together. Wax hair does not create dreads, just something that looks like dreads to the untrained eye.

If you want to help your hair to dread then wearing a tam, salt water sprays/swimming in the ocean, and washing with a residue free shampoo are the only things that can really speed up the process. If there is such a thing as speeding up the process...

Time is your main friend to achieving dreadlocks. My advice to you would be read, read and read some more, anything that you can find on the net and elsewhere. Talk to people who have/had dreads and then think about how you want to go about things. Remember it's up to you ultimately how you want to do things. It's important you do it how you want to do it. Have fun!:cheers2:

Oh sorry nearly forgot. However short or long, and whatever method you choose it's going to look a little "weird" to "normal" people probably, that's something you have to try not to worry about though if you're growing dreads...

Well, heres my plan so far: Section it off, twist it, backcomb it, probably end up having to rubber band the tips off. then ill just keep it clean, wear it in a tam, play with it, etc, and hope for the best. sound good?

    lol true that
jsut dont use wax, it smells bad, creates mold, and only sticks the hair together giving an illusion of dreads lol

Well, how much time are we talkin here? i know everyones hair is different, but rough estimate. Im going to be graduating and going into the world here within the next ten months, so im going to see how that works out with the dreads. Id like to have them looking decent before then.

well its different for everyone. things can look mature for 6 months - 2years or more.

unfortunately its very hard to make things look business like without damaging the hair in some way. temporary ways are tying them back or using aloe or other products to tame the wild. a more permanent way is crocheting, but it doesn't last forever and the more you do it the more damage you do.

its hard to foresee how things will be 10 months from now, you may want to start and see how things are first.

yeah, worse comes to worse, i cut my dreads. might as well give it a shot. but i dont need to look business worthy, just decent enough to be an electrician.
