or so I was told. by an older guy (40s) who cut his own about a year ago. instead of replying how I wanted ("well, I can't be perfect in every way) I asked him for his advice (he is kind of a big deal around these parts.) his advice was to cut and start over (a year worths of hair growth. fuck that) and failing that, re-crochet and fix them up nice and neat. oh, and to keep them dry, which is impossible as I go in the ocean almost every single day. I realized though that I don't really give a shit how they look, they are how they are, and you people seem to insist that given time they will look better (although at 4 months they just seem to be falling more and more apart) but as a consolation, I had someone tell me they like them as recently as yesterday + I am quite happy with how they look myself.
jimmy, for some it can seem like it takes forever for them to look the way you want them. part of the process is dealing with the changes.
Lol mann i still get comments like that and their like 2 1/4 years old already. Doesnt matter man just let them go. plus you go in the ocean alot like you said thatll help them tighten up. Just before you go to sleep blowdry a lil just to make sure there not too moist u kno if you said their never really dry better than nothing. Im pretty stoned so if im not making sense mah bad, but crocheting is lame not worth it and just use aloe very to keep em neat does the job and doesnt feel nasty.
Normally people like that mean don't wash them more than once every other week. Like wow...hello the saltwater is what keeps them nice and tight and the fuzzies are just hanging out looking for other fuzzies to hang onto. Either way...he just prob dreaded just for attention if he was going to give condescending advice like that.
Haha, thats mean, but funny. I dont get shit alot about it anymore, but today my sister told me i need to "make them right" and doesnt understand the concept of natural locking, and tried telling me all her tons of friends with sick dreads used wax and that i have to. I dont see her alot, so I think it might have been her first time seeing me without a tam or at least a hat on in like 6 months or more.
yeah, I wanna see pics too ^_^ I just ignore the negative comments. As long as you love em thats all that matters I think.
I considered this, minus the giving advice part. But like I said, he's kind of a big deal around here, so I didn't want to worry about it too much. And to whoever said going on the ocean helps tighten them, well, when you spend 1-3 hours underwater every day, I think it will loosen them slightly. I think I was more annoyed at the fact that his words affected me than anything else. Like I said, I like them, and I get positive comments on them all the time. I am quite happy to just let them do their thing now, I am noticing they are starting to lock up ever so slightly in the back, so it's all good! :cheers2: And that's a big negative on the pics. I fear the potential for abuse
I was referring to the saltwater cause I hear of alot of surfers say it helps their locks so ye plus i use a homemade one on mine. But I guess if your like a snorkler or scuba diver then I can see what your sayin
What I hate is when undreaded people tell me to wax them. And then you respond with how bad the wax is, but many people don't have the attention span to completly listen to what dreads are and how to get them and matinence and such. Then the're all astounded that the answer is nothing.. Oh well, I got one guy who now reliezes the evils of wax.
