What date to you use to work out how old your dreads are or when you 'got' them? The day you stopped combing, even though none appeared for months? The day somebody first noticed you had dreads? The day your head was covered in them? I've been asked this question heaps this past couple weeks and never know what to say :hat:
Well not exactly the day i stopped combing because my hair is yet to even be long enough to have dreads so, ifi was to count the days it would maybe be even two years before i even see 1 dread for so, once my hair gets a certain length and i see my hair start to knott, and stuff than i'll count the days. but thats just me
I don't use "a date" personally. The natural method just happened to me I guess. But when I felt the first lil' dredseed it was the point of no return...
I count when I stopped combing... but I don't know the actual date because I didn't think about it. Just the month and year.

I don't even know when I stopped combing, cause I hardly ever did anyway. I combed enough to not have dreads, that was about it. So, I tell people that it was mid to late summer. I really have no idea.
Same here, except i think i stopped in the fall sometime. Its even weirder, cause i had a friend try twist and rip ( i THINK twist and rip is what its called on the internet that he did) but never washed it and didnt really like them, and my hair was a bit too short at the time to in most parts, so most of those fell out/i pulled them apart myself, except for one of the locks which i still have a like. So that whole deal blurs the line of when i started natural even more. But im letting that last reminder of the twist and rip congo, so i guess i wont have that soon. Maybe the end of it.
i just figureds this out this past july, i never really thought about a date, or having started my dreads i just sorta guessed at how many years i had em.. there was barely a year betweenmy 1str set and these but when i was at the wyoming gathering this year i remembered stickinga few beads in the loose hair in the back at the vermont gathering 18 years b4, and by the time i left vermont i had baby dreads forming so i guestimated that they began somewhere between july 1st and 3rd 1990 i dont remember wether i combed much or not durring that 1 dreadless year, or when exactly i stopped, so the day i stuck in a few beads had to do for theyre birthday i think alotta natural dreads are born that week every year my freind chevy (dylanchick0113 on here) hers were born at the colorado gathering 3 years ago (afterspending 3 weeks asking everyone she could to help her backcomb she woke up 1 morning crawled out of her tent and says omg i have dreads..lol)
Haha, awesome. If I were going to backcomb, I would want to do it at Rainbow or at Twin Oaks Womyn's Gathering; I think there would be so much positive energy and love inside the dreads. I am happy I just stopped combing though, even if it wasn't at any particularly memorable event.
