Hi - My situation is this - My sister had given me some cough medicine with Codeine this morning to help me sleep cause I was't feeling well and was unable to get a good nights rest on Friday . Not thinking much of it I took it and it did the trick. After waking up and some thought, I'm extremely worried about failing a drug test any day from Monday to Friday next week. I do however have a prescription for Hydrocodone under my name. I do know that Hydrocodone is made from Codeine but the compounds are somewhat different. My question is this - If I were to test positive for Codeine, would I be able to say that it was because of the Hydrocodone that I took the night before being that I have a prescription for it ?

With my job, if you have a prescription for a medication, you will not get in any trouble. Any information would be great.

    Please help

well i'm guessing it's a standard drug test so it will only come up positive for "opiates", not the specific kind. they won't be able to distinguish that you used codeine instead of hydrocodone.

so if you test positive for an opiate, but currently have a prescription for an opiate, you should be perfectly fine.
