My friend got busted the other night...

But well he's out now, but im gonna tell you the whole story.

So on Thursday night, my friend, A, gets busted in front of a club for pot, and due to Thai laws, they have to arrest him right there. He was actually being pretty careless too and keeping the bud in his pocket rather than putting it in his shoe or his crotch area when it came to the patting-down area.

The next morning, another friend, P, gives me a call in the morning that A has been busted and we need to bail him out. After enough talking and whatnot, We find out that he's been caught with 4 grams of pot and is being charged with possesion. It was alright until we found out that the fine was like waaay too much.

So we then call up another friend who's got all kinds of connections within the Thai police force, and she helped us out A LOT. First, she has them reduce the ammount of weed down to one gram, reduced the bail and fine by over 50 percent of what it was originally.

Good thing that his parents didnt find out too. If they did, they would've definately had him sent back to his homecountry for Military School.

What this experience taught me was how far friends would go to help each other out. P and I called up a lot of people, but not many of them were much help because they were all leaving for New Year's vacation. A's girlfriend, even though she was out of the country, helped out the only way she could at that moment, which was talk to A and wire us money for bail. It really showed A too that who really gave a shit about him and who only came to him for pot.

Did he learn his lesson? Yep. He's not gonna be as careless anymore.

Asia seems really strict when it comes to weed, which is fucked up, since if I am recalling correctly the plant is beleived to have originated in asia.

Yes Asia is very strict, but Singapore is ridiculously strict! Thailand isnt anywhere near as strict as Singapore when I think about it.

I know this wasn't you, but I'm just gonna say it. Don't be a f***ing sod and blatantly break laws in foreign countries. Foreign cops love busting well to do college boys on vacation. Its money in their pockets and they don't really give a fuck about your welfare. Not every country goes about punishment and authority in a humane way. Now, most of the time they will just charge you through the nose, but people CAN and DO get incarcerated for a long time, beaten, and lost.

The fact that your friends attitude is "good thing mommy and daddy didn't find out" and not "wow, I'm really glad I was able to buy my way out of this. This is a wakeup call to be more careful." Shows that there isn't really an appreciation of how bad things can get.

Not bagging on you personally, but people have an attitude that thailand is an "anything goes" place, but thats not really true. Sure, drugs/sex/partying abounds, but the local PO loves to bust people who think its a place to do things they can't at home.

Yeah I live here. Thailand is very much an anything-goes place. And its seriously anything-goes. I'll say that my friend got really lucky. You guys dont need to tell me how much of an idiot he is because I've been spending the last week or so telling him how big of an idiot he is.
