Last year on 13th October 1000 women in sashes, men in costume and colourful creatures of all shapes and forms gathered in Parliament square. We were celebrating the centenary of the Suffragette Rush. After hearing inspirational speeches from Rosie Boycott, Joy Greasely (Women's Institute), Caroline Lucas MEP and more these Edwardian-decked women broke police lines, lightly vaulted makeshift barriers and rushed towards the doors of Parliament. Our fists banged against their closed doors and our Suffragette chants resounded through the Chamber as civil servants peered nervously through windows above - DEEDS NOT WORDS, DEEDS NOT WORDS. Our demands? No new coal power stations, an immediate stop to all airport expansion, and 80% reductions in carbon by 2050. Now, with our third demand duly granted, and everything hanging in the balance for the first two, we are back in town and raring to go. --------------- Monday 12th January 2009 at 7pm the Climate Rush will hit Heathrow Terminal 1 (Domestic Departures). We will arrive in Edwardian dress (under a big coat!) with hampers of food to have our 'Dinner at Domestic Departures'. It will take place on the day that the MPs return from their winter holiday. When the string quartet plays its first note we will reveal our dress and share our food. Hundreds will join us and together we will make history. We have waited too long and been misled too many times. It is time for us to take control and to lead social change! www.climaterush.co.uk
