I became a vegetarinan about a decade ago (give or take because I ate chicken for a short time thereafter). When my parents, who were really supportive, first took me to our local health food store, the owner gave me a book, and really became sort of a friend to me! She told me," In ten years, your friends will be eating more like you."

Fast forward 10 years later, I was at an Italian restaurant with friends, and one of them who has been raised eating meat every night, ordered a grilled veggie sandwich! Does anyone else see loved ones being more accepting or welcoming of vegetarian meals in their diets????? How do you think vegetarianism has changed in the past decade?

I'm an almost vegan.... For me the longer I've been vegetarian, the more I realize how important it was to me to be with someone who shared my beliefs. I had really given up, because here in Jersey, I don't know many vegetarians. When I first met my current boyfriend, he was a meat eater. I had no intentions of trying to change him, because, i figured he's accepting of vegetarianism so I will be accepting of his choices. Well, in the first 6 months of us being together, he experienced many vegetarian meals, and desserts. I talked to him alot about being veg, and he decided to become one!!!!!!! He's been veg for about a year, and I am so proud of him! I love when people try vegetarian meals, and realize we actually eat food with TASTE and NUTRITIONAL VALUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So many people seem to think I open a box of tofu, eat it for lunch, and was it down with wheatgrass juice.

    That's very nice.
So he found vegetarianism as the perfect lifestyle for him without being forced to change, he did so because he truly liked it.

If vegetarianism has changed in the past decade... maybe it's all about being more informed, or having more vegetarian options in certain restaurants.
I did hear that more and more people are converting to vegetarianism.
And if this is the case, then of course they are interested in having a variety of vegetarian dishes available. So this ends up by making it an attractive diet, offering plenty of choices...

My husband is omni, but he's been trying to look up vegetarian recipies. He's been eating less and less meat since I went Veg. I keep having to remind him to eat meat. I'm starting to worry that he's edging Veg, because I think his scrawny little body needs meat.

I'm starting to wonder the same about my husband. Not that I'm complaining - far from it, but I've "caught" him telling others how Americans get more protein than they need, or that a vegan recipe we found is actually better than the meat-version he's been used to, or some other small hints that he's changing his mind. He's even hunting up new veggie recipes to try, and suggesting veggie-versions of foods he's always LIKED with meat in them, in the past lately.

I think it's COOL that people can make this decision (or not) without feeling pressured from their loved ones. It seems to me, that's the way it ought to be ;)
    love,
    mom

Whether Veneficus goes veggie or not, we have adamantly decided that when we breed our children will be allowed meat unless they decide for themselves once they're old enough. It's like religion, in a way: you can't really force it.

But compromise does make the home life much more pleasant, doesn't it?
