I might be getting a dentist appointment either this week or next week. I chipped my tooth in the back of my mouth about a month ago and it still hurts. I don't have the proper mirror to see how bad it is but it feels like my gums are growing over the jagged half of tooth i got left.

Right now I have practically used a whole tube of Orajel cause im in so much pain. The question is, when I fill out the paperwork and it asks "Have you had any addictions to drugs or alcohol?" If I put no, will they check with my doctor? The reason I ask is I want to make sure I get medicine that will be effective but if they give something like ibuprofen, I'll be pissed.

I understand pills such as darvocet or tramadol are sometimes prescribed to people who may abuse opiates. What are the chances of this happening? I realize theyre weak but id prefer those over some ibuprofen. If I wanted ibuprofen, id take an extra dose or 2 of advil.

I am in legitimate pain, and just want something that will cure it.

Well it appears my mom took my last 3 lyrica I had in my room. I know she took them because I looked in her purse and they were sitting right there. Im not gonna take them back because itll be obvious that I took them back. Its not the fact that she took them that pisses me off, but the fact that she's keeping them. Why wouldn't she just flush them or something? Makes me wonder if shes gonna use them for herself.

My mom gets medicine like hydros all the time from her friends for toothaches but yet gets mad if I use a medication that isnt prescribed to me. I was thinking of asking her for one of the lyricas for the pain but the chances of her giving it to me are slim to none. She wont even give me an ibuprofen.

Ouch. Tooth pain is awful. I highly doubt they'll check with your doctor if you check no. A yes would bring further questions, but they've got better things to do than call your doctor when they see their sheet filled out with no problems. You might mention that you're afraid of post-procedure pain and you tried Ibuprofen but it didn't seem to make any difference. That's a good clue that you need something stronger to keep you comfortable while it heals. So, does Lyrica help with that kind of pain? Sounds like your mom is worried about you taking pills. Just hope she doesn't mention anything about meds if she goes with you!

If they don't give you something at the appt, don't freak out. Play along, then when the lidocaine wears off, call them back if it's hurting real bad and ask what you should do. It's their responsibility to keep their patients comfortable after getting work done. My oral surgeon prescribed 24 Percocet 10/325's after taking 4 of my severely impacted wisdom teeth out! First time I'd ever had oxycodone and once I took one of those, I knew it was gonna be allright! Good luck on getting it all taken care of!

    Any other opinions?

The lyrica gave me a buzz which kind of took my mind off the pain but it didn't help per se.

Yea I would just check the NO , I doubt theyll check with your doctor, those forms ask a shitload of questions, so I'm sure they don't check them. I wouldnt expect anything though, espeically since your not getting surgery or wisdom teeth or something like that. Just don't be obvious about it, and you might get something. I wouldnt get your hopes up though. PLay it cool .

you will probably get tylenol 3's with codeine, if your lucky and play it right you can probably get some "percs" or oxycodone 5mg/325mg APAP (Acetaminophen)

How do I "play it right"? I know if I get prescribed some NSAID or whatever ill probably be pissed but ill prolly have to grin and bear it. My mom left me some aleve but i refuse to take it cause the amount id need to help the pain would prolly cause me liver damage.

Do i just cooperate with them and be polite or something? Do they judge me based on how i dress? I tend to dress in urban clothing and stuff so will that be a downfall for me?

Their discretion. And "them" being humans, I would say, of course they'll judge you on the cloths you wear. As well as your mannerisms, speech, vocabulary, etc. But many of these are being judged subconsciously by the doctor. So don't go in with written lines, giving an oscar worthy performance.

Dress nice (casual). Be polite and honest. Tell them whats going on. Tell them what you have tried. What has worked/hasn't worked, etc. And that's about all you can do. Best of luck. I see Tylenol 3's in your near future. Hope those will do the trick. ;-)

T3s have gotta be better than Ibuprofens and Aleve. Right now im using tube after tube of orajel to numb the pain but i shouldnt be having to use orajel in the first place. my mom checked my tooth the other day and saw that there is something wrong. shes gotten me a dentist appointment for i think tues or weds. she says it could get infected if i dont get it treated.

Well I went to the dentist and found out i need to get my wisdom teeth taken out. So what can I expect to get for after the surgery? I'm thinking my 3 options are darvocets, tylenol 3s, or hydro 5s.

Well man... first of all you shouldn't have to play it right if you are really in pain and he is a good dentist, he should be able to tell you are telling the truth... anyway I went to the dentist about a year ago with a REALLY bad toothache and he told me I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled, just the uppers this surgery and the bottoms another time. But he gave me perc 10s(oxycodone 10/325) right then, a weeks worth til surgery day. Then he gave me vicodin(hydrocodone 5/500) after the surgery. And he knew what he was talking about because it hurt alot more before they were pulled then after.

    UPDATE:

Had the surgery today for the first tooth. They gave me a scripts for 15 7.5 hydrocodones, 16 5mg hydrocodones, 15 600mg ibuprofen and 16 800mg ibuprofen.

I think I made out pretty well. Obviously ibuprofen isnt recreational, but it will be nice to have when the hydros run out.

You do realize that Ibuprofen can be bought over the counter, in 200mg doses....

you can.. but 600 and 800 ibuprofen will come in handy if you have a headache or a horrible hanger

My point was that you can take 4 of the 200mg, and it will probably be cheaper then paying for the prescription.

Stop fooling yourself, you're not interested in something to just take the pain away. Anyone who goes onto an opiates forum and makes such a post has other motivations, even if they are subconscious.

    ^ Good point.

Although I am in pain management and I actually do use them for pain...I wish I could go back to where I used them recreationally and didn't have to take something just to be able to get out of bed because my neck and back hurt so god damn much.

After so long on them, the buzz from them fades away...you don't get "high" anymore. I can't remember the last time I got an itch from an opiate, and nodded off...they just don't do that anymore, no matter which dose I try.

Hydros for wisdom teeth? That's it? I got some perc 10's when I had mine removed.

I guess some dentists are pretty wary on prescribing the strong stuff...

Just curious, why two diff hydro scripts for two diff strenghts?

Well that must suck for you man.
I've been on Opiates for years and in Pain Management for the last several years now. And I still get really high on my meds if I want to..Which is at least a couple of times a week..
And as for the itches I only get them when I take a couple days off my Oxys. Then double my dose just so I can enjoy the itches LOL
Like last week. Felt so good
