what about europeans do they have a right to exist?

this conflict is over land and ideaology!
a couple of 1000yrs. ago two or possibly three brothers had a fight, and decided to try and wipe eachouther of the face of the map!! so here we have it!

Mind you the Palestinians demand the exact same thing - A Palestinian majority state. Perhaps coming from the West, it is difficult to understand why two nations cannot co-exist, but both Israelis and Palestinian know that if they were to share a state they would slaughter each other. Many Israelis are not happy with the Jewish state status of Israel, but on the other hand they know that without a Jewish majority they are putting their lives at risk. They only need to look at Lebanon, Iraq and almost any other Mid-East country with a multi-ethnic makeup to see what is in store for them. Yugoslavia is another case in point. Singapore is another (they left the Malaysia union for a very good reason - safety).
So for the Israelis there's a choice - live in a country that has some racist overtones or risk the lives of their children. Which one would you take?

I don't know. I tend to think that ethnic conflict is the outcome of something else.

You mention Yugoslavia...from what I've read, Serbs and Bosnians were practically interchangeable prior to the sectioning off of Eastern Europe, after the collapse of the U.S.S.R.

Ethnic conflicts are manufactured for geopolitical purposes. German jews are a case in point. There was nothing more quintessentially GERMAN, than German jews prior to WWII- and suddenly they become an excuse for martial law. A martial law, furthermore, that was absolutely ESSENTIAL because the winners of WWI would not allow Germans their economic survival.

Likewise, I think the day Palestinians have heated homes, food to eat, potable water, and parks like Israelis do- both sides will realize how culturally and historically connected they are (if they don't already).

And there will be no need to grow up throwing stones at Israeli bulldozers and join Hamas at 14.

BOTH religions of the region recognize the fact that God gave a certain piece of land to the Jews/Israel ~ the Qu'ran, and the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament, have the specific boundaries of the territory that Israel is to occupy in their Holy Books.

These nations ARE their religions ~ which is why our Founding Fathers insisted that that NOT be the case here in America. That is not to say that those men didn't base their ethical responsibilities upon some religion ~ they did, and that religion is Christianity. Right now, America still appears to be inhabited by a majority of Christians, and while that is the case, the U.S. will NOT just kick the Jewish people to the curb.

With the Muslim people, the bottom line is that they are still lagging behind the rest of the world, thinking they can wage THEIR Holy Wars, much like the rest of the world already DID. The problem is, these days, the weaponry is such that these folks could actually DESTROY whomever they view as their enemies, which seems to be everyone.

If they won't cooperate to create peace, it's sort of like trying to deal with a herd of folks who are violent and have alzheimer's diesease ~ no matter how much you care, no matter how much you want to help, you can't cure them and you can't allow them to just run amok.

For real, the religions imply that the conflict will never end. Nothing like self fulfilling prophecies. Both sides are so attached to their ancient teachings that the world has evolved around them socially and technologically but still they choose to behave as they would thousands of years ago. Same "holy war" new ways of fighting it.

What would the world be like with no Israel? If either dropped thier weapons would the original quarrel from thousands of years ago be over? And if that actually happened, would that be the change or revolution we are all either looking for or simply curious about?

Too true, would the American government try a "peaceful" negotiation or would we attack back? We all remember how we felt after 9/11. We wanted revenge, we wanted blood. Do we really expect either to just stop fighting? We need to think about which outcome would profit the US best? Then think about which outcome would profit the World as well as Humankind? There are 4 endings to this, both sides remain intact, Israel prevails, Palestine Prevails, or both cease to exist. Which outcome would be "best" and on that note, best for who?

All we can really do is wait and see what happens and hope the situation is resolved, preferably in a peaceful manner. But the future is always uncertain, this may very well be the Change that has been waited for.
