I have a 5 mth old baby girl, Sophia-Raine... And I was wondering how to teach her how to sit up on her own??
Do any of you have any good ideas that have worked for you?

Any help would be much appreciated,

    Thank you! :)

You don't really "teach" them to sit. It's just a natural progression...

well, "help her along" then... Because you can't really expect her to all of a sudden learn how to sit up just by laying her on the ground.
    Or am I wrong??

Shell do it in her own time. You can prop her up against you while you hold her and the rest of it but shell just do it on her own when shes ready really

I didn't think you could "teach" a baby to sit up on their own, they just do it when they are ready. My son was 6 months old and my daughter was 9-10 months old when she learned to sit. I used a Bumbo chair with my daughter to sit her when I needed to and sometimes a Boppy pillow around her when she wasn't stable. My son just learned. Otherwise, yes, they just sit up on their own when they are ready. All babies are different, so it could be now or months from now.

Yes, you can. Their instincts are to become eventually more upright. When she gets stronger, she will experiment with different positions...i.e. sitting, crawling, standing, walking, etc.

my sister had her husbands nephew for awhile while he was a baby. he was slow prgressing because he was a saved tubal pregnancy and his motor skills etc. were slow. he took until about 15 months to learn. so dont worry, she'll learn.

I heard a neat thing the other day...kindof related.

Someone asked a education person how long it takes a child to learn to read, and he responded (something like), "It depends when you start. If you start when they are 2 it will take 3 years, if you start when they are 3 it will take 2 years, if you start with they are 4 it will take 1 year. The difference is that they will enjoy the process much more and enjoy education a lot more if you start when they are 4."

    ^weird.

Well, pretty much just help her sit up and she'll eventually get the hang of it... I mean, don't just prop her up, but like if shes laying on the floor bring her up and try and get her to "want" to stay up, I guess... I don't really know what we did, but she started to sit up.

    Good luck though!

Simply occasionally place her in a sitting position such that she'd have to use her back on her own to stay up. Eventually she'll just start catching herself, as it's a natural response. But really, it would probably be ideal if she learned in a more gradual, natural manner.

referring back to the reading- my husband read to his ex's tummy nightly for the 9 months and than read to his girls while they were infants and toddlers. They started reading at 10 months and started walking at 9 months. My step daughter is now 12 and the other is 9 but my oldest owns over 4000 books and reads 1000 pages a week!!!
