Had this e-mailed to me and thought it was worth passing on!!!

    THE LAW IS THE LAW

So if the US government determines that it is against the law for the words
"under God" to be on our money, then, so be it.
And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments"
are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.
And since they already have prohibited any prayer in the schools, on which
they deem their authority, then so be it.
I say, "So be it," because I would like to be a law abiding US citizen.
I say, "So be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I
are in positions to make good decisions.
I would like to think that those people have the American Publics' best
    interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?
Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot Post His
Commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe the Government and
it's employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas celebrations
which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of
    American life.
I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving and
    Easter.
After all, it's just another day.
I'd like the US Supreme Court to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday,
Thanksgiving and Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it's just another
    day.
I'd like the Senate and the House of Representatives to not have to worry
about getting home for the "Christmas Break." After all it's just another
    day.
I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all
government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday &
    Easter.
It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day
of the week to a government that is trying to be "politically correct".
In fact, I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set
aside for worshipping God...) because, after all, our government says that
it should be just another day....

    What do you all think????
If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected officials will stop
giving in to the minority opinions and begin, once again, to represent the
majority of ALL of the American people.
    SO BE IT...........

    Please Dear Lord,
Give us the help needed to keep you in our country!
    Amen and Amen

The gov't did not outlaw praying, or the ten commandments. Anyone can pray when they want. You just cannot force other people to. Pray silently.

And religious icons shouldn't be sitting outside gov't buildings. Same goes for nativity scenes, or whatever. But Santa and the Easter Bunny aren't religious symbols. And most religious holidays stem from pagan holidays anyways. They are not uniquely christian.

I really appreciated this post. I agree! The government should not be allowed to have it both ways. The same issue stands with abortion. It is a crime to do drugs when pregnant, but if you just kill the fetus in cold blood altogether, then that's acceptable and politically correct. I am a government employee that has a union which supports and funds democrats. This isn't very fair to me, since I am a Republican. Why is it that they endorse a candidate?

The myth of seperation of church and state has really gotten out of hand. Thank you for the good points you made. I hope God will continue to bless America, but it wont happen if her people continue to shut him out. Many Christians are fasting and praying on Thursdays for this country, if you'd care to join. :)

Even if you pray out loud, you are not forcing anyone else to pray. So I don't see what's wrong with openly praying.

Yeah, let's just toss out the window the fact that this whole nation was founded on Christian principles and beliefs. Say what you want, but it's the truth, sister. Here are a few web sites you can visit. Please, educate yourself.

You are right about the religious hollidays, only they were Christian in the beginning, but were corrupted into pagan holidays. For example, Christmas should be celebrated some time in the Spring. December was not when Christ was actually born. And Easter comes from the sun goddess Eshtar, if I'm not mistaken. I prefer to call Easter the Passover, because it is when Christ rose again. No, Satan Clause and the Easter Bunny are not Christian symbols. They are just made up by the world to take the true meaning away from Christianity's sacred days. And if these holidays stem from paganism, then they should not be days that government employees get off. The athiests still want their mail on Sundays.

so what, you think that christians are better than pagans? and many, many christian stories or ideals, were originally jewish, but were "corrupted" into christian stories.

I really don't want to get into a religious debate here, but not only are most of the christian holiday merely corrupted pagan holidays, but most of the central ideas of the religion itself came from earlier religions, some pagan...

No, this is not how I feel, but my beliefs are Christian. And I believe it is the supreme and right belief. I respect that not everyone believes this way, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!

Besides, you must admit the point that these are religious holidays, whether it be pagan or Christian, and if we are going to seperate church and state, it should include all religions. Remember, the atheists and agnostics have feelings, too. What about the Jehova's Witnesses who do not celebrate Christmas? Is it really fair to them that Christmas is a nationwide holiday? Maybe it "offends" them. I mean, the gov't can't have it both ways. Not without a fight.

thats like saying if a religious group had something against independence day (im in NZ so i dont have it, just using a US example) then they should get rid of it?! they started as religious holidays, and they may have more meaning to religous people, but to the majority of people (here anyway) christmas and easter are holidays, thats all

Take for example the death and rebirth of god/jesus/whatever... It has been a feature of MANY religions since long before christianity came around... Besides almost all the 'religious' holidays are really just commercial holidays...

the poitn of what he is saying is that if you want to truly separate church and state you need to remove all holidays which stem from religion, ANY religion. You cant take the good(days off) and not the bad(nativity scenes).

The separatoin of church and state is so horribly misread...government isnt establishing reilgion by allowing schools to set up nativity scenes, nor are they when they allow menorah(sorry i cant spell it) pictures to be posted...but thats a whole other issue. People always forget the "nor prohibit the FREE EXERCISE thereof" part of the constitution..

Edit: anyways, we're not alone.. The french say they are a secular nation and ban people from wearing headscarves in schools..but they have np taking all saints day off...yeah, real secular there..

Atheism and all types of Spiritual beliefs should be equally protected by the law.
Religion is on balance a good thing, if you ask me, but it is important for world peace and cultural relations, etc. to show everyone the same respect.

As for having the courts, etc. open on Xmas. I have always felt it unfair that the poor gas jockey has to pump gas for minimum wage while the professionals get a day off. It isn't fair.

YOU need to educate yourself. They were never christian in the begining. Most sources you will find on thie topic are christian sources, all admitting that they are pagain holidays. Even in my christian (baptist) school and university we were tought that christian holidays overlapped pagan ones in order to easily sway pagains to the christian religion. "See, we have a holiday like this too...but instead we do this, etc..."

I suggest you look at the chart here, to give you an idea of the much much older pagan traditions which are now overlapped by christian ones.
    http://etori.tripod.com/holiday-myths.html

    And from Christianity Today Magazine:
    http://www.ctlibrary.com/ct/1999/dec6/9te085.html
"Long before Constantine, Christians found ways to redeem local cultures and salvage elements in those cultures that naturally pointed to Christ, whether Hebrew, Syrian, Greek, or Roman. They denounced inhumane pagan practices, but at the same time took over pagan temples and converted them to churches. They replaced the old gods in popular devotion with heroic martyrs of the persecutions. And they replaced the holy days of paganism with festivals of the Christian year."

    http://www.goodnewsaboutgod.com/studies/holidays2.htm
"The Christianization of Pagan holidays began about the fourth century A.D. when the Roman Emperor Constantine, became (or feigned becoming) a Christian. In order to consolidate his rule, he incorporated the Pagan holidays and festivals into the church ritual - attracting the Pagans, but he gave the holidays and festivals new "Christian" names and identities - thus appeasing the Christians. Over the centuries, this practice has continued until the present time where we find the two systems, Paganism and Christianity, almost indistinguishable."

There IS an answer to this. Read:

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.

And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school ... the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing? I didn't think so...

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!

When it comes to seperation of church and state, I agree that the church should play no role in state affairs, but face it, we are a Christian country, there are going to be christian elements everywhere, just like if you went to Turkey, even though it's very secular, there are going to be muslim elements in what the state does.

Yep. Just the way it is.

That's why it is silly to worry about petty things like "under god" and nativity scenes...but making classrooms full of students pray, or at least making them have to listen to it, now that's a different story.

God bless america is a song...

And I don't care who sings it or where it plays. That's like asking me if I have a problem with christian radio or something like that...

What I would have a problem with is my child being forced to participate in prayer. I don't see what is so unfair about that.

No public school requires students to partcipate in prayer, some have a few moments for prayer, but thats for students that want to pray.
