objectively, the bus driver is legally responsible for the safety of the students, but she handled it criminally badly.

and, I would have gone out the emergency exit window in the back, less hassle

If she'd of went to the sidedoors and the driver did some shit then she could really say assault..
She could of sat down for a min then made break for it..
But that pig daughter shit... WTF was that??

I think that the main girl was probably picked on (other girls talking on phones, much more obviously) because the bus drivers daughter probably disliked her.

bus driver should not have been on her daughters route, period.

Children often ride with their parent bus driver- all through the route and then go home with them-at least when I rode the bus.

I doubt the girl was picked on but even if she was her reaction was way, way, over the top.
I am surprised the other kids on the bus didn't pop the emergency exit sooner- I would have been off the bus long before they were.

the thing is, girl was fifteen, she isn't an adult, she is not supposed to be the responsible one, and by detaining her after her mom tried to give consent (both not accepting that consent and preventing the child from acquiring consent) is wrongful imprisonment, that bus driver broke the law, violated a childs rights, and was no better than a fifteen year old

adults are not children for a reason, and as a society we do not evaluate children the same as adults for a reason.

that bus driver fucked up BAD.

    Hard to say.
Bus drivers aren't well trained- and a lot of their "training" consists of basic rules like" not allowing the child to leave the bus until their stop" and calling for back up in such a situation- not resolving it themselves, and NOT listening to a "cell phone" (who could be anyone perhaps not even the childs mother-tho we know in this case it was)...
I think if anything the school fucked up. The school should have handled it sooner- and perhaps told her how to handle it , she SHOULD have been in more contact with the dispatcher principal beyond "this girl is going nuts on my bus" .
Not saying the bus driver didn't fuck up - obviously she did... but I don't think she is as much at blame as ou seem to.

Understandable that a 15 yr child is not an adult- but the "child" just as much assaulted that woman. and a 15 yr old student does have certain reasonable rules about how they should behave... and even the girl in later interviews admitted she behaved poorly.

yes, she did, but, she was not the adult, it seems you've seen more stuff, so, I submit, how is it not insane that the fifteen year old child was convicted of a crime, and not the fifty four year old woman?

how did the bus driver keep her job, and what the fuck was the school district thinking in not firing her? yes, the school district is also culpable, they bear the burden of shitty training, but an adult should know, if you are being told by a child not to touch them, and you are not their parent, you have no right to touch them.

now, I know it's not so black and white, sometimes children need to be restrained.
but there was punching, and hairpulling, and it doesn't matter who started it, it was the adults ability to end it.

We had an asshole bus driver for a very short while. He looked like a pedo and never spoke to us.

One day a young kid tried to get on the bus as it was driving away from the school, and the driver would not stop for him. (our school was in another town, walking home was not an option) so we opened the back exit and the kid ran and caught up and we pulled him on, the driver did not stop during any of this...
He drove us back to the school and got the principal to give us shit, but the next day some of the honour student types (they would be believed) went to see the principal to tell him what really happened.

We got a new driver right away.

I started an insurrection on the bus in middle school, my life was being fucked up by summary punishment, which, is not acceptable.

I gave a little speech, walked back to school, and apparently a shit load of other students left after me.

I thought they both got assault charges?- they both def should have.
She def shouldn't have Physically tried to restrain the child in the 1st place- but if anything after that it looked/sounded like the girl was the one assaulting the driver.

I have no clue about the school district bus driving thing, the last ting i saw about it was they were doing an investigation into it. the school district is looking fishy on that - between what looked like poor training and bad policy (to have not been keeping communication with the driver when she called for backup)- but I am completely freaked out by the bus system since local issues with that here- finding out we have crack heads with no license or training, who should never be working with children ,is far too fucking common place and there is not enough done about the bus system in FL... and I can only imagine it is not only an issue here.

Im currently a bus driver. I run a pretty lax bus. My kids are all pretty well behaved. And LEGALLY if the driver were to let her off the bus ANYWHERE except school or her house, the driver is liable for all that happens. I do not let my kids get off with other kids unless their parents talk to me and/or the transportation director FIRST.

I had a bus driver once who would pull the bus over if we made any noise, or she saw any of our heads above the back of the seat in front of us.

I think that is stupid. The bus is just a way to get to school. It should not be a dreaded event. I only pull over the bus after I have asked the kid to sit down. If they dont sit, then I pull over and wait. They usually get the idea.

if they were like my school and just put an empty box up where the camera goes, the bus driver and her kid could have just delivered a swift board to the girl's head and ended it right then and there.
