really the only thing I was shown in the outpatiemt program was a AA chapter for the agnostic and all it said was basically "you've got to believe,,,you've got to believe
Exactly. You have to come to believe in something, but you can come up with your own concept of a Higher Power.
I have been to Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.... sadly, I don't think Over the Counter Anonymous exists. Maybe you should check customer service.
maybe for you. i'm certainly not convinced that it will work the same for everyone. i have a friend who was a huge cokehead. he went to rehab briefly and dropped out because of all the bullshit propaganda. once he was out of there he was able to quit for himself and has been sober for a year, today. my grandpa was one of the biggest alcoholics i've ever met, and one day he just up and quit because he just wanted to be clean. this was like 5 years ago, still clean. yes, the religious/spiritual aspect can help some people. but i refuse to concede that it is the only way.
i've been to NA.. and i looked around and thought "damn, what a bunch of tweaked out, hagged out nasty lookin' losers" ... then realized i didn't wanna be like any of them.. motivation enough right there.
