Ok well ive had this problem probably all my life so I think its about time I told someone, its 3:04 AM and I went to sleep at 12, I am up at 8 tommorow for skool and once again I cant sleep. about a year ago I was astounded to hear that most people fall asleep without 15 or 20 minutes of going to bed, I have never been able to sleep with less then an hour in bed, I also wake up frequently at night. One thing Ive always done compared with other people is sleep with my computer on normally watching something, I do this because A. I cant sleep in complete darkness or silence and B. because if its not I cant keep myself from thinking. I have also always had problems with twitching in bed, not every night but 1/3. Anyone have any ideas?, this is like one of the worst longest streaks ive been on where ive had no sleep past 4 and I cant go to school like this much longer.
Eh, just try to make the most of the time you're not sleeping. I personally don't think we all need the same amount of sleep. And if you channel those long nights into anything productive, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish in life. See it as a gift. Some people need to be in bed for 8 hours every single day. Others simply need less. Try writing or learning something new.
Well Another problem im having is because I dont sleep enought and im always tired my mom has taken to Making sure I am sleeping, I guess If i get up at night and do something I could accomlish something but if I made any noice My mum would probably shoot me. Seeing as I couldnt leave my room the most productive thing I could do is homework or computer. Both are mentally stimulating and hence wouldnt help me get tired.....
I have much the same problem as Digi, here.I usually try to meditate, but I can never fall asleep, maybe it's anxiety. I've noticed whenever I quiet down or try to sleep, when i'm just starting meditating, etc., i can feel my heartbeat through my entire body, and if i'm lying on my side, I hear it in my ears too. Like last night I went to bed at 2, fell asleep around 8 this morning, and it's 10:26 now, however, that's a fair bit more sleep than i usually get (about 40 minutes some nights).
I have chronic insomnia as well as depression, so sleeping pills are a no-go for me. I have used Benadryl, which works for only a few days at a time before you start having nightmares (As it builds up in the system, it can become a hallucinogen.). Also have used mugwort tea, which is a stronger hallucinogen but it gives really happy trippy dreams. Upside: the mugwort is prescription-free, legal, and if you over-use it the trippyness won't follow you to school the next day like Benadryl's can (That day sucked!). Don't use mugwort if you're pregnant, or you won't be. I know people who have used valerian, haven't used it myself. The biggest help to me was cutting caffeine completely out of my life, difficult but not impossible. Insomniacs and caffeine don't mix. I can drink a can of cola in the morning and be up all night, it blows. A heavy dose of cardio exercise in the afternoon can help, more so if it completely drains you, but you have to give the body time to settle down after. Yoga's awesome, too, as it relaxes you if you use the right moves. Find an AM-PM Yoga DVD or something. I usually do a few stretches before crashing to loosen the muscles. You don't know how stressed you are until it's gone.
