Yes, don't know if you've guys have heard or not. but the remaining members of the greatful dead are starting a tour this year. unfortunatly not any where in my area. But for those lucky enough, they are starting a tour soon.

Just found this out yesterday. I flipped, but then when I saw the tour schedule...all my excitement disappeared. But then I started to think, will they still be as good as before? I've never seen them live back in their day, so I could never know how great the shows were. but after all these years, will they still be able to jam like before?

    what do you guys think?

I'd guess it's pretty similar to long ago. There's some good nights, and some not so great nights.

The main thing is that the scene isn't there anymore....or not as there anymore. It used to seem like the dead heads would take over the whole area. We were allowed to camp in public places near concerts....or sleep in the parking lot.

It seems like about 15 years ago, at least on the East coast, they weren't allowing camping anymore, so the scene faded a little.

Now the equivalent is festivals, where the venue is a camping area or something. But, "the Dead" shows probably not like festivals anymore.

To me, the scene was at least as important as the music. It was a group event and the concert was just part of the fun.

I kind of felt bad for those who were so interested in the music that they missed the scene. (I always thought is was weird seeing people writing down the names of the set list during the concert....I always thought, "start listening now, worry about tomorrow later....you should enjoy what's happening now instead of planning for you memory of it.")

I really don't know much about it, but that's the impression.

i think the shows should be amazing they have the now allman bros. lead guitarist warren haynes who can play with anybody and is without a doubt a worthy fillin for jerry. im lucky enough to be close to the jersey shows and to the MSG show both should be great but im not sure which one will be better

wtf you smoking.. Worthy.. I dont think so..
Warren haynes sucks! I dont know how they found this junkie but his
playing style is fucking aye annoying.. Plz get someone that dont play annoying melodies.. When this clown starts playing I like to find a restroom and puke..
I personally dont even think warren plays anything but a looper machine.. This sound turns me off..
As worthy as Garcia.. Srsly GTFO!!

well lucky you, lol. their no where near me. Barely any good concerts come to the south. Tool played in Jacksonville, FL while I was there. But I never listen to the radio and wasn't able to get on the computer, so I never knew about it. One of the few times I was extremely pissed. hahahaha.

the dead show will definitely be interesting. Especially with Warren playing. But then again, its a dead show. So even if it isn't the greatest, most of the audience will to dosed to notice.

Have you seen any recent allman brothers show or a government mule show? i have been lucky enough to do both and warren haynes is one of the best improvisational, bluesy, and soulful guitarists still playing today, if your gonna miss the show cuz of that your def missing out on something that could be an amazing night
