so i started backcombed dreads about 4 days ago and they looked good til i washed them the 2nd day. then they just looked like messy hair and what not. im thinking og just ocmbing them out and trying wax (i know everyone says not to ) but i dont really have patience (i wish i did). so, what im basically saying is i want to see how my dreads will look and if i like them with wax to see if its really worth all the time. AND, how much time would i have to remove the dreads if i try with the wax?
I can honestly say bro that wax is a dead end path. Its been 2 years now since I've used that piece of shit and i still find it everywhere in my dreads. Its not worth it man, if you wanna have designer dreads for like 6 months then I guess, but if you plan on having healthy dreads for a long time to come then just stick it out and itll stick in Dreads come to those who have patience candles aint dreads just my opinion
If you come your dreads out now, your hair will be damaged and will not want to be backcombed anytime soon. Do not use wax, its a waiting game, if your that impatient then perhaps dreads aren't for you! (Says me lol) Please don't buy into this wax game, it doesn't do anything except make them worse, I can't stress enough how much damage it does, there is a crowd of ex dreadheads here who cut their's off/combed out because of wax, I still have loads in a few of mine, they aren't locking up. Look at this: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=330594&f=209 It's my timeline, look at the pictures to begin with, look at how stupid they looked, then you will see the wax pics, wax nearly lost me my dreads. Please please don't do it. Alex
why anyone would want sticky hair is way beyond my comprehension... for those who used wax... Is it as annoying as I'd imagine? I mean, does it get on your pillow and stuff?
It's worse, I have stains on tshirts where it dripped :| Im serious! :O Its disgusting, but the thing is alot of people who decide they wanted dreads, go to websites like dreadheadHQ, and get convinced if your caucasian then you have to spend £90 on hair products that make it look, smell & taste like shit.
All dreads go through a crap stage within the first year and I'm sorry but if you don't have the patience do you really think dreads are for you?
Same question as Moon Doggie If its about that then its understandable The kids with their generic styles who have to pick at your style because they are secretly so bored with theirs but can't break away due to the shackle's of the popularity society Nothing I ever write makes sense 8-(
knottyboy wax is much better than dreadheadhq. use a pea sized amount, blow dry in and dont wash for 3 days youll have dreads in no time
Dude, don't do the wax..here's my mishap with it!! http://mamamojo.wordpress.com/2008/07/15/the-dreadlocked-mess-momster/
ugh, wax stained the inside of my white football helmet purple. its totally annoying, your locks will need to take time to mature into the real thing. were you thinking of a permanent style or something you would get rid of within a year?
i dont really kno i dont really give a shit what people say but no one reall yunderstands that dreads take time and cut you no slack. ya theres some people who are cool with it like "oh thats so sick man" and shit but i guess i dont want to take the time and the shit from people idk. and i know it was less than a week but idk ha ill probly try it again in life
Stick with it for at least a year man, you'll be glad you did. I know it sounds corny and overused but thats coz it true - dreads become so much more than a hairstyle
pleaaaaaaaseee avoid wax =] cost me 2 sets of dreads, and im hesitating about trying it again (without wax) because of my bad experiences in the past. the wax wont do anything for dreads apart from make them all gloopy and sticky.. when you get it wet it goes all slimey and icky =[ if youre serious about getting dreads, read thru all of the other threads.. learn from everyone elses posts, experience, advice etc etc. it really will help you understand dreads and how to get them/maintain them etc and if you have anymore questions, just ask =]
If you think people can't handle your dreads while your at this age than what will make them change their mind once your older? Well, whatever you do, i hope you don't get any regrets.
