People are lazy and don't care anymore. No matter what we who do give a shit try to do, if more people don't get their asses seriously involved, we're going down in flames. Just like our freedoms and rights. I hope I am dead by then. :leaving:
I agree. except with the dying part. i hope i live for a very long time.. anyway yeah. we should have another revolution like in the 60's. its high time we have one anyway. too many people take our Mother Earth for granted thinking that its gonna be there forever. I hear alot of people around my age saying that they cant do anything coz no one is going to want to listen to a bunch of teengers. well I say make 'em listen! let yourself be heard. One person can make all the difference in the world. you just gotta find your voice.
Your absolutley right man. I love the fact you mention that the government screwing us over. Its true. Hippies are supposed to try and escape this communist bullshit, but there are alot of us who think that THEY ARE TRYING TO HELP PROTECT US. They do alot of shit just to get money from us, for example, your tag for your car, once it is expired you dont get to drive or you get a ticket, but in order for you to get it renewed, you have to pay the fucking government money. Its a big system for them to scam our asses. See the government is in debt to other countries so they need us for money, we dont give it to them we get punished. Marijuana is only illegal because the government cant find a way to tax it, so they dont get any money of it so then nobody gets to have it. Well fuck them. I can tell you one thing that Im not going to fall for any of it. And as far as the technology and shit go, I think that we never shouldve got any of it. We as a society have become too independant on all of this, if we lost all of it over night we would be panicing until we shit our insides out. I honestly think we should have a revolution again, however this is where your point is right, there isnt enough real hippies out here to help get one started so it may never happen again. Like I said, your right man. But there is just one thing, I dont understand why all the elder hippies bag on us because we werent there in the 60s. Its not cool to do that man.
i agree with you, but i guess im a hypocrit at the same time. but i do give a shit about our freedoms and rights, and i want to do something, but i just dont know wtf to do in a society where half the people just straight up don't give a fuck and won't take an open-minded view on it.
our generation has no direction, all you old hippies sold out, now i hear iorn butterfly for a goddamn 401k comercial. i sure started an underground in my hometown, i gave speeches, political graffiti, handed zines, we never changed any thing within the system, although we did change some minds. i think abbie hoffman said it best in his suicide note "Its too late. We can't win. They've gotten too powerful." ill do all i can, but if they want to censor the net, they will, and you all know it. i wish we could trade television for the net.
I find that offensive. If your speaking about people in general, then okay... But if you mean every young person on this site as an individual, thats out of context. You don't know the young people on this site, so who are you to sit there and call us "stupid, young dumb "hippies"? I find that extremely offensive and rude. And i wont sit back and ignore it. Idk if someone else can explain better what he's trying to say. But from what i read, i found it all very upsetting for me.
perhaps the name to this article should have been "jaded old hippies who do not understand that the youth create and dictate technology"
I am irritated that the hippie subculture is becoming a fad, just as rap was, and grunge. being a hippie is more than dressing like one, pretending like you care, and using psychadelic substances.
This thread is three years old. It was started to wake you up to the infringement of your internet privacy rights. Did you act on that? No and this summer with the new FISA bill you no longer have any implied privacy rights. Want to object to the title of the thread then grow up and become responsible for protecting your rights, not quibbling about someone calling you a name. And let this thread die.
dude i totally understand your standpoint. but there seems to be alot of judgement and alot of anger held within u just from reading that. we must remember to come at this with love empathy understanding. the majority of people are ignorant and it is fear that holds them in there ignorance. they need love and nuturing to bring them through into love and into light. but totally agree it is frustrating that "alternative culture" hippyness or whateva label u choose to slap on it has been taken away from what it really stands for and is being used as a fashion statement or whateva. same as the punk movement was aswell i guess. we need to educate with love else they will just run away in fear. remember the two motivating forces for action in the world are these Love and Fear.
Hectic, it's easy for you to say that way over there in Australia. As gardener pointed out, here in the US we have basically lost our implied right to privacy. This effects everything from our right against unlawful search and seizure to a woman's right to abortion. Not directly and not today but the foot is in the door. When he started this thread three years ago Gardener tried wake up the young generation to the fact that this would happen if we let it. He was right. We did. It will be almost impossible to overturn FISA. Topher is also right. Wearing tie dye and sandals and smoking weed after school doesn't make you a hippy if that's all you do. It makes you a poser and a loser. Hippie McRaver you will create and dictate NOTHING if you lose the basic human rights which were, WERE the cornerstone of this country. Mark my words: regulation of the internet is on the agenda.
true. and i totally understand ur predicament. is somthing that is extremely worrying and alarming. but what we have to think about here is the global expansion of conciousness. elevating the frequency of the entire planet. and to do that we need to help people break the fear. the only way the forces that r in control maintain control is through fear. so to help people move out of fear and into love and into truth we need to treat them with love and with truth. all i meant was that holding anger towards these people is not going to help the overall situation. and what the fuck is a "hippy" anyways. half the people i have met that would be called a hippy are bitter jade and judgemental. labels take away from individuality. beings r just beings. putting them in2 a category is just helping deppen the problems we face
See my post in RT about labels. We're on the same page. Well-meaning people don't often choose the best methods, but their ideas an intentions are nonetheless for the good of all.
That's why we call these people hipsters. Fuck the I-pod, the average modern man would do anything for a free t-shirt.
This is true ignorance at its finest. The same could be said for many OLD HIPPIES, as well. In case you forget, the 60's and 70's were filled with drugs and tiedye. So what is your excuse? I do not use drugs, nor do I wear tiedye, nor do I even consider myself a hippie but don't be so bloody ignorant!
