So, I moved cross country last month and I have a beautiful collection that I had to leave behind with my old roommate. I was planning on driving and that woulda been cake, but I had to fly last minute. I'm really paranoid about getting my shit back. I've carried a few of them with me for years... others were gifts and I love them. My question is, what is the safest way to transport? I've never really cleaned them all the way and I wouldn't even know how to get rid of all the resin. Should I get him to boil them? And after that, what is the best way to ship it? I don't wanna risk getting in trouble by any means, which is why I left them. I gave him the wooden ones bc I knew that was a little pointless to attempt, but there are a few that just have way too much sentimental value. Any thoughts?
Clean all the glass and ship it, there shouldn't be anything illegal about it then unless Florida or wherever you came from says it is illegal to ship tobacco accessories. I would have cleaned them and taken them with me on the flight, maybe even throw in a pipe tobacco bag for kicks.
clean them with baking soda and alcohol. then wrap them in plastic and put them in a box with packing foam. that should do it, but make sure they wont knock against each other.
if anything to play it safe.. ship it 1day airmail... so its not floating around in the system for too long
dont use UPS, i use to work in shipment and EVERYTHING even 1days get tossed around. we take a package and throw it 5 feet to the belt that takes it to the truck that then goes to the plane. edit: i would imagine Fedex does the same process. your package can make it, its just most packages are treated very poorly.
