Just wanted to vent my annoyance...I keep losing chunks off the bottoms of my longest dreads! UGHH~ just when I was super stoked about having wicked long dreads they disappeared, well A few of 'em anyways....thinkin cuz I'm always fiddlin' with 'em or cuz they are brittle because of their age down there? I don't know....don't know what I'm really lookin for here just wanted to vent. I should probably get more aloe, I ran out 'bout a year ago. Other than that nothin has changed in my dread care regimen... maybe I was in the garden/sun too much this summer ? Need to tie my fingers together and stop playin with 'em so much too..... Eagle~ do you lose gobs of dreadage here and there? 'Tis very frustrating! Anyways, much love Ya'll C*
did u ever crochett or do excessiuve palm rilligrubbiungf felting anything like that? i do lose dreads alot yes..but just the ends ..dragging on ther ground wrapping around axwels being stepped omn runoer caught in car doors u name it has done some damage but they in general are very string so take a tin of abuse before breaking and its only the thin ones that have broken thicker ones shouldnt without having magir dammage from poking holes or excessive rubbing..possibly being too dry or mistreated wity dyes or whatever could cause that too o knew a guy with 30+ year old dreads who lost enough off the ends to make a pillow for his daighter outta em (he started growing em the day she was born) had u crochertted or excessively rubbed or twisted the damage ius done you can treat the hair as dammagesd hair and repair some weakness in each individial folicule but if hairs are broken too much insiude the dread structure maybe weakened..just be gentlyer dont poike holkes or rub and they will grow if shunbks fall off its ok they will grow on anyway just mqake sure new growrth remnains unweakened
My friend Susan had beautiful 20 year old dreads, totally natural, and she would lose inches off her dreads like that. Her hair had this maxium length it could do and anything longer then that they would just break off until they were shorter again. She's had dreads on and off for over 40 years, her husband has dreads, her sons have dreads, and she said some peoples dreads just do that. They have a maxium length capability.
Haha , yeah I figured thats probably what was goin on, just wear and tear No crocheting or palm rolling, and definitely no die!!! Just like I said, always fiddlin with 'em...bad habit, always have the end of a dread in my fingers Its just the bottoms thus far...hopefully nothin drastic to come ~ ahhhhh! Thanks for the input peoples, at least I'm not alone here I usually do an annual update every beginning of the year-ish with pics so keep an eye out then Ms. Gaia Bee .....thanks again! Peace~
ooo... i've "shed" lots of my dreaddies... whenever they have a really thin, weak spot I tend to just pull them off.. .hahah... freaks my son out when I do that... I mainly did it when I was pregnant with my daughter, it felt good to lighten up a bit. I do miss the length tho
i think its a thickness thing, i bet healthy locks could do this if they formed thin in spots, especially if they're years old.
I've been tying the weak spots into knots so I don't pull 'em apart anymore....this week (Jan 11ish) is their 5th Birthday They are all pretty much like thumb width ....cocoa butter I'm not too sure about. Being that the hair that is dissinegrating is like 15 years old I have accepted it as what it is, and what will be... so it goes p.s. Pics this week
yay, I'm excited for pics! what do they look like when they break off? I had to cut a lil snip off one of my thin ones a while ago as I got some glue in it by accident. It was before I knew cutting dreads was baddd. It looked a lil blunt and weird at first but not it's beginning to grow and look more normal...how did yours look?
