    on the subject of syllables, i'm no syllable nazi. i prefer it to be organic and flowing, rather than contrived to fit a set form precisely. ballpark is good enough in my book.

    I see. I didn't have haiku in mind when I typed that out, it was just free association I dashed off. I credit Matt with inventing it via this sort of context.
    I do write "haikus" but they tend to be more lucid and observational. I don't really know much about them.

    i don't know a hell of a lot. i do know there are certain conventions of traditional haiku which are generally observed, such as the 5-7-5 and an obligatory word to indicate the season, but other writers have taken more liberty with it and simply written poems free form...differing schools of thought on what makes a "real" haiku.

    i like both, what i've read of it.
