i would like to go to europe sometime in the next year or two.

what good places are there for some old forests that might still be standing? someplace quiet with lots of trees and not a lot of people, where it would be nice and safe to go camping for a day or two?

    :cheers2:

Finland :D Lapland in particular, but most of Finland is covered in trees and lakes. It's very pretty and very safe. And very clean! When are you thinking of going?

I hear Poland has the last considerably sized primeval forest of Europe. I forget the name of it, but it was discussed in that book "World Without Us" which I definitly recommend to anyone who enjoys pristineness. I remember him saying something about how it was this forest which inspired the Grimm Brothers to write all those stories.

Not alot of "true" wilderness in Western Europe.
The British national parks were deforested alot on the lower levels.
So no wolves /bears left and few eagles.
I think the Swiss alps are pretty agriculturalised too.

    I'd say Scandinavia, Poland etc.
Outside the EU, Russia, the Ukraine etc.Maybe some other E Eur?

In Slovakia there are a lot of nice places for hiking and also camping although I think professional camps haven´t got big standars here.
I prefer on own hook living :D
And also non touristic places, cos Great Tatras are full of tourists although big part of forests were destroyed by storm and human stupidity some years ago.
On the other hand National park of Slovak Paradise (Slovenský raj) was once attacked by gypsies who found fun in cutting trees there.
But there are still safe and nice places to have a nice time here :D

i am fascinated about the road of bones in russia.

that would be a spectacular journey in my mind..

there is a documentary out about two guys who made the trip on enduro bikes. (minus the absolute impassable rivers)

i doubt there are many more isolated areas on earth.,,

i know technically siberia is asia but i think most associate it with europe.

It was joke. They cut trees, cos it looked like good way to earn money.

In England the trees have gone.
So gypsies steal road signs instead.

Russia must have a vast number of beautiful wildernesses.
The Altai Republic, Lake Baikal, tiger spotting in the Far East.
Even Western Russia must have lots..

Imo, Russia sounds great. My brother asked me for a trip with Trans-Siberian Railway but I guess I´m not ready yet to spend 2 weeks in one train :D But the country-side must be awesome.

I don´t think so. They´re good example for common people like to practice recycling effectively ;)

From Leningrad? I don´t really know. From Moscow to Vladivostok it´s 9289 km. I think it´s much more than 7 days.
I noticed that lot of people combine plane with Trans-Sib Railway. Get railway to Vladivostok and from Japan return by plane or by contraries.

edit: drive? haha...I have no idea like it is on the east, but I heard they have consolidated roads ;)

Trans-Siberian Railway trip sounds great :) Yeah, two weeks on a train is a bit long but I reckon you can get off and on at different stations for a few days?
Scandinavia has lots of great wilderness. Germany has some cool forests as well, and I bet France also. But most unspoiled nature you'll probably find in the north and eastern Europe.
