Do carbon filters have to be attached to and exhaust port to be effective? If a carbon filter is placed in a grow space and set to re circulate air, will it still work?

I understand that placing it on the exhaust creates a negative pressure and eliminates smell leaks, but will a recirculating one help the situation at all?

Any form of carbon filtering will help it just a question of degrees. I would guess recycling or re cirulated air will only be about 30-50 per cent affective on removing the smell.
