i don't think i'm familiar with his work. if the picture in the OP is any indication, i'm in the "i don't get it" crowd.
i am a fan of Andy. I have been since i has about 14, and 2 years ago i got to see some of his work at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Munich. Just random, does anyone like salvador dali?
i have never appreciated Andy Warhol, never really liked his work. i think he has no talent at all and is very highly overrated , but that`s just my own opinion.
What was it he did , a hugely long film showing a whole night of lights at the Empire State building. I think that was him saying "Christ u art people can be such pretentious idiots". That Damien Hirst baffles me too.Alot of art stuff is just the Emperors New Clothes.
I'm a huge Any Warhol fan! I am studying film and I am doing a paper on Andy Warhol films. He was very avant garde and made over 60 films. I wish I was around when he had the Factory going on. I know I would have been in one of his films. He was such a great man!
Like I said, I choose the first things I found, but what you showed is really not any better. It's more of the same. To me Warhol was making fun of everyone through his art, not only the audience, but the whole "art scene". That I can appreciate, you're insulting someone at the same time they're buying your insult, that's awesome. Now when it comes to his art, it doesnt make me stop and admire it, more like ok and I move on,
My thoughts exactly. Pretentious and dumb. If you have the personality you can sell anything to people as long as you make them feel that they need to like it because there's something that they're not getting.
I LOVE Warhol. Sure I wouldn't want one of his paintings.....but the fact that he was able to paint a can of soup and people called it art - Me likes. haha If a can of soup can be art, then some of my more morbid and grotesque drawings can be called art. That's why I like Warhol and I do like pop art when it comes to fashion. I don't care for it on my walls.
Well, I'm not that pretentious to call him untalented... but I just don't like his art, just as most pop art, dada stuff and abstract art is generally not my cup of tea. I have seen some cool stuff in these art genres though.
I'm not much into his pop art as I am his films. Andy reached his pinnacle during the 60's era of hedonism (drugs, sex and rock n' roll). He was avant garde in his view of the world (I think mostly from taking drugs, like LSD), and he pushed the limit on obscenity. I watch his films and wonder what was going on his mind, but I always remember that this is art and art is an expression of the artist. "The beauty of art is in the eye of the beholder"
