Hey! Has anyone been round here?
I looked it up on the internet, and they listed so many hip stores there! I live like an hour or 2 away from San Fransisco, but the only time I go is with my parents because me no have car, and that really sucks. But, maybe sometime I'll go there soon, but yeah, I was wondering....how did you like it over there?

Also I feel dumb bout how the heck do you pronounce 'haight'? haha. and ashbury is just said like, ash-bury, right? haha ok well thanks!

You pronounce Haight "Hate"...at least, thats' how I've heard people pronounce it. :) Yeah, I'd love to make it down there...I've heard it was pretty cool. I just hope it hasn't turned all commercialized.

Ive been to the Haight -- and it was at one time hippie paradise and its a good place still and their are good people that hang out on the Haight at least the two times ive been to SAn Francisco anyways--- unfortunatally some years ago some genius thought it would be a good idea to build a gap right at the crossroads of hippiedom-- and from what ive heard the Haight isnt what it used to be-- although I had a wonderful time with many other kids-- doing that hippie thing - smoking grass -- and spangin for change
any of you kids that havent been there especially the ones who live so close should make it out there

I live a ten minute walk from the Haight (and yes, it's pronounced "hate") I go there quite a bit. It's not too bad if you ignore the huge corporate stores--you can find alot of cool shops. I'm not too big into shopping anyway, so I usually just go to find a good restaurant. (I highly recommend the People's Cafe)

    Strawberry Fields,
is Massawa still open? I stayed at the Red Vic for my anniversary in 2000.

The "hate" is OK, really touristy, and the homeless know good panhandling when they find it.
I got there from Fairfax via the ferry and ONE muni bus. Just one.

I went to San Fransico back in September. It's... OK. I love the few head shops that are left. But a lot of it is very commercialized. It's not like it was back in 1965. It's still pretty cool though. I got a star map and went to see where the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, and Jimi Hendrix lived. There's a lot of homeless people. Some of them scream at you. It's sad. Although I did get pot on the street, and not alot of cities are like that. They were good heady nuggets. Go to the park. Good smokin spots

some of them swilly concrete angels will yell at you, just creative advertising for their panhandle cause, which most of the time is scooping up a forty I know some of those kids up on the haight and they get wickedy wild sometimes-- I found my self broke and with no money out and san fran and lived on teh haight for about three days and i must say that the homeless population in san fran is amongst the finest-- i crashed on teh beach with a bunch of street kids one day, another day, I slept in some kids van anotehr day I slept back up againt the wall and shared a meal of crackers and sipped some gin with a few street kids fun folks to hang around with but some take drugs and alchohal way too far-- but i must say panhandling on the Haight is my favorite spot to panhandle in the world -- there is an aura of romantic authenticity at this so called hippie haven -- too bad commercialism exploded -- leaving a crater in its wake of a GAP up on haight ashbury-- and a mc donalds right across from the golden gate enterance-- I like golden gate park better then Haight street though especially hippie hill, good times, get baked out listen to the dead no hastle good times good times

damn, i keep hearing about how it was a hippie paradise. doesnt it seem like its been taken over by the common folk or whatever? its like the stores there are ancient hippie ruins that just happen to still be functioning.

I live in San Francisco and go there to smoke (well, technically not in the street, but in Golden Gate Park, which is right next to it) with my friends. It's not really that "hippy-ish" anymore, per se, but it's definitely got an alternative feel to it. Great stores, too (Ameoba's, the Haight-Ashbury Music store, Ben and Jerry's Ice cream (which carry "Chocolate Munchie Bars"), etc.

Hey how is Haight/Ashbury's street fair? I'm thinking of riding up this summer just to check it out. While I know its mostly commericalized n shit I'm just going because I've never been and 2) it brings back good memories of an old friend I've not seen in a long time. *sigh* I couldn't admit it back then but I was mad in love w/ the guy. Anyway, it'll be cool to hit up SF again just for kicks.

It is a great place to hang out for the entire day. There are a lot of fun shops; clothes, jewelry, music, and anything out of the ordinary. I enjoyed taking pictures and chillin with some of the people there.

I felt like I was living in the past for a minute. It seems like the good ole days will remain there in a special way.

    You'll enjoy it.

The last time I did a walk around was 1986. It was almost 20 yrs since I left California.
My wife and I were at a professional conference in the city for a week, on Friday we finished early so we said lets go see the Haight again.
Yes there were a lot of beggars, a few of the head shops were still there, but now had signs for master card and visa.
It was strange how it had changed and we had changed. My wife and I had finished college and were in professions we had chosen.
She was director of nursing at a medium sized hospital and I was in law enforcement and under my sports coat was my off duty weapon and my my badge.
We settled in a little bar on the left just before the park. I think it was at the bowling alley. The bartender looked like he'd been around forever, when we told him we hadn't been here for 20 years, he asked if we were some of the hippy kids. He said a lot of us stop by, now grown up with careers and families.
Now our kids are grown. the youngest is 31. we are settled in our log house, gardens, raising chickens and giving treats to our 15 year old dog..

    Love and peace.........
