Hello everyone, im not really new to dreads, ive had them on and off 5 times since i was 15, im 25 now, 3 weeks ago i brushed out my dreads (Personal Reasons), they were 1 year and 10 months, how i missed them, so i am re dreading yet again for a 6 and final time. Ive tried every method from backcombing to rip and tear to natural and yes even tried wax once (Yuck). This time i am experamenting with a new technique but im not sure how effective it will be. Im prepared to wait a year to a few years to get the dreads, ive been through this process many times and i love it all but i do have a question about hemp hair raps, is it damaging to the baby dreads if i put a half inch long hairwrap 1-2 inches below my root to help with seperating, i dont care if the hemp gets lost in the dread, i just wanna know if this will hurt my baby's? The other question was can i put beads in by baby's right away to help hold the sections in place?? Any opinion helps thanx.
Hey Sativa, Dreads are formed by knots as you know, knots are caused my movement & friction, hair wraps don't allow much movement, so don't dread very well at all! Alex
Hey thanx for the responses!! By far i would say natural is far more worth it in the end, but backcombing has always worked fine for me, helps keep the dreads more organised in the beggining. I backcombed again this time but thats about it, im not gonna palm roll or anything, just let nature do the rest, i found thru all the dreads ive had the best were the least worked on, thats why im trying the hemp wrap a few inches below the root, hopefully it will help me seperate the dreads, i have it ties loose enough to allow movement yet still hold to the dread, my friend did the same to his dreads 10 years ago and they are fine now!!! Longest ive had dreads so far has been 4 and a half years, so im lookin forward to another dread journy, someone close to me died not long ago and in my personal tradition i got rid of my dreads in there honor, so now its time to move on and start dreading again
Hey brother I had put hair wraps in my hair once and they formed the Perfect dreads, but not where the hair wraps are, just what grows out after them. So it took five years for the wrap to grow out enough so the dreads above them would be long enough. Then I cut off the hair wraps and had two happy little perfect dreads that I kept for another 8 years or so.
how did you brush your dreads out after nearly 2 years? Mine are not even 3 months and they'd be impossible to brsuh out for sure!
I just cut most of the dreads off and left about 7 inches from the root then brushed that, It was hard and broke 3 steel toothed comb's but after 5 hours they were out. I soaked my hair in conditioner brushed, added more conditioner, brushed more and whatever could not be brushed out had to be cut, i had 3 dreads that did not want off my head, so sadly those three were cut off. It's a hard and painfull way to remove dreads, but it left me with chin leangth hair, but if i had of shaved i would be bald and not able to re dread for a long while, so im happy, and my hair is already re dreading nicely!!!!!
