Discontinued due to nobody buying the 9000 another fine graphic card bites the dust grab one whiles you still can.
If you're on a budget, this is a great deal. Just got one to drive my new monitor. Purrs like a kitten. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1892411&Sku=A177-3102 x
I like the sounds of a twin for mine. I'm not an ati man as per normal but windows seems more responsive and colour more lust on ati. Lol we're always on a budget.
Mine mate only just an 8800 in pc world today. It was lost stock the had been on offer but had gotten lost. They track 1 do for him coz he asked.
The 8800 GT has been succeeded by the similar 9800 GT. Actually, they are supposed to be the same card, just using a different video BIOS. I bought a 9800 GT for $110. That is a lot cheaper than the 8800 GT ever was. Just buy the 9800 GT and you will have everything the 8800 GT ever was, and more.
some of them 8800gt's pretty nippy on the speed and memory compared too and will spank a cheap 98 model coz there so similar. But seen it all before and brought the next upgrade lol.
Yes. Some 9800 GT's are nerfed. You can 'overclock' them back up to speed. Occasionally, some cards have voltage reduction in the BIOS to prevent overclocking. It's easy to get around that by flashing the BIOS with a higher voltage. I will be flashing my EVGA Hybrid 9800 GT BIOS pretty soon. The voltage is currently too low for overclocking. First I'm interested in cooling upgrades. Then it's off to 750Mhz core and 2200Mhz mem.
Was meaning to ask if ya dont mind this sli.. I could mix my 8800gt with say a 8600 as long as there both an 8 model there work?. And i take it they share the load and you dont get slow down due to say a miss match between card speeds, chip set?. I'd like to find another bfg end of stock or something on the cheap save me clocking. 750 Hehe. From stock I get 7-710 here. Surely the first gig graphic card must come soon Lol
You're not the first to think this. The cards must be the same model, more specifically, the same core. Clock speeds and brand of card do not matter. It all comes down to having the same GPU core. 8600 GT and 8800 GT will not SLI together. I believe most 8800 GT and 9800 GT with 65nm manufacturing technology have the G92 core.
Quick look at gpu-z and yeah ya rite I'm 65nm G92 rev A2. Its coz I've seen on board graphics that say there sli or pair up with any 8000 model dont think thats helping. Yet the cards have to be matched totally confusing i say lol.
i got my nvidia 8800 GTOC - 512mb at bestbuy for 140$ + tax, but this was like 2-3 months ago, somewhere in that timeline.. this one is better then most 9000 series for some reason.. you know they have the ratings on the box..? i couldnt find one better then this at bestbuy, so i got the 8800GTOC, the OC means overclocked, its like 50-100mhz faster then the original one:/ anyways, best gfx card ive yet to have.. i have my 2 HDTV's hooked up to it.. let me just say.. GAMING with this card on HDTV's is simply amazing... brilliant colors, great resolution, i havent found a game i cant run on full settings anyone know what 9000 series model is better then the 8800GT? all the ratings on the boxes in the 9000 series had lower specs then this 8800GT.. guys at best buy didnt know what to say about it.. idk, it just confused me.
And thats why the 8800gt has just gotta go. They do like us to keep on spending are money but from an upgrade view point there virtualy the same card so they might as well of not bothered with the 9 models.
8800 GT is same card as the 9800 GT. Specs can be subject to a lot of other factors. Other hardware, software services running, driver versions, etc. 9800 GTX and 9800 GTX+ are both a lot better than the 8800 GT(X)(S). Just for starters, the 9800 GTX(+) use 55nm, which means less power consumption and less heat. It also means more room for overclocking. Also, the 9000 series cards can do 3xSLI. That means 3 cards that work together. The 8000 series cards are limited to 2xSLI, only 2 cards working together. SLI is also subject to how the game was developed. Basically, SLI is only good where supported.
