I'm pretty sure that most theories that claim Jesus wasn't Jewish were set up centuries ago as anti-Semitic propaganda. There is no basis for believing them, and every reason to believe that Jesus was Jewish. Shock horror: he probably wasn't white either! The argument that Jesus can be whatever religion he wants is a red herring. It doesn't prove that he wasn't Jewish, and is just a desperate attempt to cast doubt as evidence.
I guess, it depends on what you mean by Jewish. If you mean that Jesus was a descendant of Abraham then you are correct but if you mean that Jesus was a follower of the Jewish way of worship in his day then you would be incorrect. Jesus had much to say about the Jewish worship of his day and not much of it good. However Jesus did follow to the letter what was written by Moses and the prophets and worshiped the God of his forefathers. Again it depends on what you mean by white. Jesus did not stand out as different from the Jews around him or else Judas could have said Jesus is the one with blond hair and blue eyes. Jesus was a Jew and most Jews have dark hair, eyes and skin. So Jesus probably did too, although there is no description of Jesus so we can’t say for sure. Jesus could not have been of any religion. As I have all ready mentioned; Jesus followed to the letter what was written by Moses and the prophets and worshiped the God of his forefathers. His life flowed from those scriptures and was a continuation of the scriptures.
I thought he didn't like religion. Isn't that the one time he lost his cool, when he went into a place of warship and turned the tables over and throwing things around or something?
Yes, Jesus did that. The tables he overthrew were not part of true worship. They were the tables of merchants charging those who came to worship, exorbitant amounts for things used in worship , making an undue burden on the worshipers. Not only that but they had the gall to enter right into the Temple, God’s House, and set up tables to do this.
So actually he did that out of anger because of the merchants desecration of the jewish temple. Which make it seem to me the jewish temple was an important place for him. Uhm, but he grew up with the jewish religion so he was jewish at one point. Perhaps you couldn't call him jewish anymore after he preached new ideas but he was a follower of the jewish religion.
Jesus was, and IS, Jewish. His teachings are an extension of the laws, and the first explanation of God's plan of salvation for us. He fulfilled the law by obeying it ALL, putting paid to the Old Testament by showing everyone that He would obey, even if none of the rest of us could. God never changes. He demanded sacrifice for sin from His chosen people, which sounds pretty harsh, but THEN, He sent HIS Son, to live with us and teach us, and to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Christianity is based on the fact that we are all sinners, and that none of us can even come close to obeying God's laws. Getting all wrapped around the axle, trying to obey, just defeats His purpose. Have you ever been into a Jewish forum? Man, they know their laws, inside and out, and are constantly striving toward ultimate understanding regarding those laws. Jesus came to show them that they couldn't do it, that they needed help and He tried to tell them what God wanted them to know, but they got all uptight about it and had to hate Him. When He was crucified, the Roman soldiers made a plaque that said 'King of the Jews' because He is Jewish. The religion He practiced was Judaism. He came to give us a clearer pic of what God actually meant.
The Temple was not important to Jesus because it was Jewish, it was important to Jesus because it was his Father's house. (John 2:16-17) No, at no point was Jesus a follower of the Jewish religion of his time. As I pointed out, he followed what was written but the Jews of his day for the most part had stopped doing that and were following the traditions and commands of men, something Jesus would not do. (Matthew 15:5-9)
Yes: PERFECT pic of what the temple is. And, No: He followed ALL of the law of Judiaism, He just didn't subscribe to the interpretations men put on the scriptures, because they were "adding to the Word," and what they were adding was a bunch of malarkey, designed to enslave the very people they were to teach and free from this world. When y'all speak against God, i understand that it isn't so much Him you're on about ~ it's how MEN have presented Him to you. And that's the very reason that so many folks don't acknowledge that God is God ~ they think He's what's been PRESENTED to them, without actually trying to experience Him for themselves. Well, all i can say about that is that you should read the Bible, with an open heart, and LOOK for truth. i can guaran~damn~tee you, you'll find it.
Oh, my brother in God, how kind of you!!! XoXoXoXoX We're taught, in Christianity, that Jesus is (and was) Jewish, and that what He did was show all of us the error of our ways ~ that we CAN'T obey, because we're sinners, and we need His help. We're taught that what He came to tell us was that the ONLY way to God, for us, is through Him, and through the perfect sacrifice for our sins that He represents. He told us what God's Word, which is Him, actually means to all of humanity. You think the laws are the laws? Jesus showed us that empathy and compassion supercede any laws. God looks at our hearts, NOT at our doings. The fact of the matter is, if everyone practised the "Golden Rule" of doing unto others as we would have them do unto us, THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY WARS, because we'd finally understand that we are killing US in those wars ~ OUR children; OUR parents; OUR brothers and sisters. *** i'm sorry, because of my ignorance of Judaism, that i may have stated things that were sort of like "additions" and brother? i'll thank you up AND down, ANY time you correct me in my misunderstanding! :cheers2:
I think what Fyrenza means is we can't be perfect. If everyone served one another the world would be a peaceful place. It may sound sappy, but it's really all about love. That's what Jesus is all about.
Oh, i'm a doer of the Word, as best i can, in His strength, but i'm a sinner, too. (THAT's in my own strength! ) i disobey the laws of the land by trafficing (for personal use) drugs (herb). i'm a murderer. (Abortion) i'm a liar. i'm a cheater. i disrespect my folks. i used to be atheist, and denied Him. THAT is what's in me. He forgave me for all of it. And when i say ALL? Past, present AND future. Jesus came for US, the one's to whom the law was not given, the one's who were just flailing around out here, to give us His forgiveness, to tell us that God knows EXACTLY how He made us, *** That's my favorite scripture: Before you were born, I knew you. In your mother's womb, I formed you. ...sorry for the paraphrase He knows who i am. He knows how i'll react to any given stimulation. He knows the evil in me, and STILL forgives me. He gave up what He wanted most ~ a perfect son, to walk His beautiful earth ~ in order to forgive the likes of me. When you look at the heavens and see all the stars, and truly feel how small you are, THAT's the feeling i get when i think of Him and His love. i might be small, but i'm so important to Him that He gave me the capacity to think. He's absolutely awesome, and i SO wish and pray that everyone could know Him, but i also realize that the world has a firm hold on those who choose to be bound by it. So i'll just keep praying, and one day, He'll reach down and touch you, too.
Matthew 22: 36 - 40 Jesus answers a lawyer who thought he was going to Trick ("tempt") Jesus. HAH! He wants to know "which is the greatest commandment in the law". Jesus replies "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind." That was the First great commandment, and "the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." "On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." If anybody wants to get technical about what Jesus says/said regarding the Most Important commandment(s), that ^^^^is it.
I kind of hate to break up this love fest but once again the question is what religion was Jesus and the best answer is that he was a true worshiper of God. Now Jesus was of Jewish ancestry and was of Abraham through David and thus by ancestry a Jew, yes. Also if you wish to call following all that was written in the scriptures before his birth, being Jewish. Then Yes, Jesus was Jewish. But if you believe that Jesus followed the practices of the religious Jews of his day, the Scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees, he did not. The religion of his day was filled with the teachings and traditions of men and false worship. Jesus would not displease God by disobeying God’s commandments and following the dictates of false worship.
