I can't stand being home. Its just me and my mom but we absolutely hate each other. So soon or after high school I need to get out of here. Like being at home is hell, I go to work so that I dont have to be here. Its really not an option for me to stay home. I really want to go to a 4 year school but she has already said she is not doing a thing to help me get there. So basically I have been thinking about joining the army so they will pay for my school. Yes I could get student loans but then I have no one to co-sign any loans I take out so it probably isn't possible. Any info about this choice or if anyone has any experience in the army let me know. I set up an appointment to meet an officer tomorrow. My only other option would be to get a shity job and live in an apartment which I dont really want to do.
Remember the Army owns you for the 8 or more years and they can do what they want to you. The Army pays only about $300 a month and requires you to eat, sleep, and work on their bases or be out in the field=Iraq mostly. I had a buddy in the Army and he died in Iraq a year ago. Most of the things the recruiters say are usually gimmicks, since it's their job to get people to join and they don't care if you live or die. It's your choice man. Do what you'd think will be right in the end.
I dont know if i'd join the army just to get away from mom. It's true they do pay for part of you're schooling and such. I was thinking of it when I wasn't sure where I wanted to go. I live in Canada and we only do peacekeeping missions and such but I still wouldn't want to risk death or have to kill someone. You don't have to be a soldier however, there are tons of available jobs other then soldier. Ranging from communications technician, carpenters(it's called something different but it's basically construction), engineering, even cooks and accountants. All the same the job you get depends on what jobs are in demand so you may not have to much of a choice. I'd research it a little more before jumping in to it, like someone above mentioned they basically own you. Plus its full of dudes. Check out other possible options. You could join the reserve to see what it's like before singning your self away. There are alot of jobs out there so don't settle for less.
Join the peace corps. You dont have to worry about being blown up or feel guilty about being part of some murder machine. One of my buddies joined the natl. guard. went to iraq for 3 months. Got paid pretty well, but he got mind fucked when he went into the military hospital. The armed forces will destroy your mind and soul. The free college afterwards wont be worth the 20 years of PTSD.
i never recommend the military to people.i could'nt stand someone going in and getting hurt or killed on my recommendations.there's other options.and they're more beneficial to the world and yourself.i do agree when you're done with highschool it's time to get out on your own.always love your mom though.i sure wish my folks were still alive....as far as a college education goes and i think i'm in the minority goes my being a vet and all is that college education should not be part of the veterans benefits.this is just a personal opinion though.i never used it because i feel the tax payers are already overtaxed.although there certainly worse uses for tax money for sure.so i'm not totally against it.just a personal opinion and i guess education is one of the best things for money to be used for....so before you sign enlistment papers i think a person should do some research.i hope this is helpful.best of luck to you.
Don't listen to these mind numbing ignorant fools. Joining the military is a big commitment, but it has many benefits. Pretty decent pay and job securement, which in this day in age is a BIG thing. You get full benefits, and you could seriously retire after 20 years. You get to travel and see the world. Some parts of the military, such as the air force, even pay for your rent and food. The GI Bill is great if you want to continue on with your education. I could go on and on about the great things about joining the services. There are negatives, but what these fools have added aren't really the reality of things. I would suggest talking with a recruiter, and if you're really interested in school, I would suggest axing the army idea and talking to an air-force recruiter. The AF doesn't accept just anybody, and you can actually trust an AF to tell you how it is and what to expect. Plus, there tech school is actual college credit, and they pay for all your schooling while you are serving.
Riiiiigggghhhhhtttt. You're talking like an IDIOT! First off, good luck being accepted into the peace corps if you don't already have a four year degree and some useful experience. Secondly, what the fuck good would the peace corps do if they weren't in oppressed demographics, such as war zones?
Did you just pull everything you just wrote down out of your ass, because there isn't an ounce of truth to any of it. Yes, that was a rhetorical question, because it's perfectly obvious you don't know what the heck you're talking about.
Well if you are going to join the army you really need to think about it cuz once your in you can't get out. There are other options out there, try to get a scholorship or a student loan, get a roommate, but don't just join the army because of your mom. I've been through the same situation but I hate the fucking us government so it would be my own personal hell.
i completley agree with everything frieden said. i dunno which country you're from but my hubby is in the RAF (UK) and yea he has to go to war zones but there are plenty of perks to his job, accomodation and good pay amongst others. if you want to join, then i say go for it. and as freiden also said, look at the AF and maybe even the RN/RM....depending on how educated u are and how fit and how much of an active role you want as well i suppose. look at other options to though, think it through properly, dont just dive into coz u want to leave home. its a big commitment but it has several rewarding factors and the starting pay is very good especially for school leavers. and i think anyone who joins the military is very brave and couragious people, and trust me, you wont meet a nicer bunch of people. i work for the RAF in the UK and they are a great bunch. best of luck whatever you decide.
