You're damned if you do You're damned if you don't... I prefer to let things work themselves out here because by and large the regular members have the best sense of how to maintain order. Yes there are trolls and yes there are flame wars from time to time. Just had to dump cold water on one earlier. The danger with laying out specific rules is that too many people see it as a challenge to find out how far they can be bent. It's true anywhere else on these forums, not just in the Stoner's Lounge. The thing is that this entire site is the property of an individual who, at largely his own expense has offered this resource for people to contribute to and network. In return he has set out some guidelines so that we all can help keep things orderly... and civil. Freedom of speech is a reciprocal concept that holds that in return for my freedom I must afford others freedom. That means helping maintain an environment where folks will feel safe sharing their frames of mind. Attacking people not only will likely make them hesitant to speak up but create an uneasy environment where new folks may not feel comfortable sharing. This is one reason personal attacks are not a good idea. Another reason is forcing a moderator to censor. The more moderation that occurs, the worse environment for freedom of speech this becomes. Creating chaos and forcing the hands of those who assist the webmaster in cutting away garbage that has negative energy and a chilling effect on constructive discourse itself makes people not want to participate. The best moderation in a free speech environment is self moderation- with an absolute minimum of administrative interference. The Stoner's Lounge tends to need surprisingly little interference- this seems to have changed fairly recently though. The best weapon in self moderation is silence. That means anything you might feel tempted to flame is better left without any response. Topics that do not get attention quickly fall off the first page of the forum and sink out of sight- where they belong. Bumping garbage threads with more garbage responses rewards attention to those who do not deserve it. They create a chaotic forum that no one worth a damn wants to participate- and they force moderators and administrators to do that which they would much rather not do.
Thank you for your insight, stinkfoot. Pretty much... If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
no.. i got to stop you right there cuz this is one of the dumest and craziest sayings ever because without someone somewhere saying something that wasn't nice we would not have comedians.. you would not have shows like the Daily Show.. Colbert Report.. you know how bland the world would be without ridicule? I know i took this to a larger scale but the same applies to lesser scaled things PS: and we definitely would not have made it through the Bush era...
didn't read a word of that. the fact that you had time to type that about this gay little fourm makes me sad. in the best way possible. ironic much? peace
i was gonna ask how many of the "regulars" got "flamed" when they themselves were "noobs," but i guess joker made a good point: only the noobs that act ridiculous get the flaming. anyways, i kinda agree that the stoners lounge has gotten pretty harsh lately. 90% of threads are dissing people. there is very little actual discussion. pretty weak imo. everyone needs to wipe the sand out of their vaginas. p.s. why does the spell check recognize vagina but not vaginas?
While I'm all for flaming the noobs, I do agree in general our discussion has sucked recently, nothing really that interesting, many dumb threads by idiots, and even all the old time people are just making stupid pointless threads now. Have we all really smoked that much weed that we're out of ideas?
haha. good one. for some reason it took me quite awhile to get it, but once i did i laughed.:cheers2:
lol well if we could get at least one more fucking sticky explaining shit... that would help to some extent.
tothedome whined that he wasn't liked. if you don't want me here i'll go. like a boyfriend who doesn't have the balls to go "fuck you you crazy bitch!" if he doesn't feel liked he should leave, but don't ask and make it everyone else's fault. he was trying to judge the emotion of the forum. he got judged. thats why it degenerated into a flame thread, he doused himself in gasoline and asked for a match. "woe is me, everyone is mean to me, nobody likes me" i never saw a thread harping on him. in the words of Dennis Leary "Shut The Fuck Up- NEXT!" i find the wut pear amusing most of the time. and trolls are easily targeted. tothedome had to know it was coming, and the trolls do too. they expect it. free speech is just that, it is IMPOSSIBLE to take it too far, is consideration and respect a good thing? yes, certainly, but you don't get respect by being retarded. you earn it, through information, clever posts, entertaining video suggestions that are not the same braindead crap all over again. respect must be earned, or it doesn't mean anything. its not about post count, its aboutt holding your own in a vehement discussion, showing that you know something, that you can contribute something. i have no respect for stupid people, and you can't just say we should all respect everyone here. not everyone here is worthy of respect. a 14-15 year old can earn respect in these forums, but they have to show thet they aren't just another dumb ass teenager. i joined first in 2001-2002, not that i remember that account now, and it was great. the only thing different is that now the captioned pictures, wut pears, and lolcats are on the scene. if you have one post and its a real question, you'll get an answer. if its a question about how you were a dumbass and what should you do to get out of trouble, you''l get an answer, and be harped about being a dumbass. same thing happens in any group of friends. and on that note... Muahahahahaha!
Lol the only thing thats changed is that orison isnt the only one posting random funny ass pics in every thread lol
