Well Folk's It's that time of year!!!!! WE met with Hal on 1-1-09 to get lay over maps for the proposed site. We all got together on saterday and we walk the site."IT WAS AWSOME"!!!!! WE are having Vision Council on sat .1-17-09 at Tom Brown Park in Tallahassee fl. This is a potluck! The DATE'S of this Gathering is March 6th thru the 16-2009! This is a 10 day gathering with 5 days of seed camp & 5 days of clean up!
I'm sure you'll draw lots of fire for focalizing this again....guess some idiots don't think Hal knows where the endangered species live....I say North Florida is a lot better place for a March gathering than the Alabama mountains. Best of luck to you.
This is where were at. WE got are 1st lay over map for the "Florida native brown speckled nute" This dam nute needs 600 feet from it's nesting grounds. We don't have one on are site BUT There are 9 nests 1 mile away!!! Thank God! WE also got to deal with the Red-cockaded woodpecker They only need 200 feet from there nest. We have two of these trees on our site. We will let folks know were these two trees are. Are next hurdle is the Archaeological site maps We are meeting with FS on the 12th to go over are maps to.We wil bring all to counsel on the 17th. So far this year FS has been vary nice to work with! We had a good gathering last year and they THANKED US !!!!!!!! WE HOPE TO DO IT AGAIN!!!
Following the string of aids, numbered in sequence, around Big Bend from Tampa Bay to Carrabelle nonstop. Want to explore the New River into the Apalachicola National Forest. Need local information on the New River and the gathering ahead of time. Is the river tricky to enter, currents strong, tidal range, prohibitively shallow or deep enough for large commercial craft?
Well, we had a good vision council on sat and have a concencuse on the site for this year. Yeh.. Many of us have been scouting and will continue to do so in order to provide the best possable "lay of the land" info for those coming in. Directions to the site will be posted soon.
My two friends and I definately want to come this year! We are sad to have missed the meeting saturday should we just check back on this forum for more information?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! Everything you read here is false! Everything you read from that "Wanderingturnup" character is twice as false!
Directions will be posted here when it getts a little closer, and yes so far this is the only Acola thread so just keep check'n in. see ya soon
The original and true Wanderingturnup died in the Great Server Change a few years back. Everybody on the Forums lost their account, but you were supposed to be able to keep your old username. I couldn't figger out how to do this, however, so Wanderingturnup's evil twin, "II" rose from his ashes...
People are encouraged not to be on site until a week before the start, for seed camp (March 1st). Seed camp is for setting up kitchens, helping clear trails, and setting up a water supply. So come help setup please, but remember there is limited food and water during seed camp, so come to help out. Also the week after the Gathering is for cleanup, if you can, stay and help cleanup. The national forest covers more than half a million acres of longleaf pine groves, clear-water sinkholes, two runnable rivers, and open, grassy savannas that are more East Texas than South Beach. Bicycle the pines on the Munson Hills Off Road Trail, a sandy 20-mile singletrack loop. Local legend has it that Tate's Hell State Forest got it's name from farmer Cebe Tate, who wandered into this swampland chasing a panther that killed his livestock. Got bit by a rattlesnake and emerged a week later, white as a sheet, and muttered, "I just came from hell." Paddle through cypress swamps and slow, meandering rivers, keeping eyes peeled for bull sharks. Torreya State Park rents yurts. ($32; www.floridastateparks.org/torreya)
