do mushrooms get bad? because my friend has some that hes held on to for a few weeks or maybe longer im not sure but would they have lost potency? how would i know how many to eat?
if stored wet, they can rot/mold/etc like any moist material. if stored dry and well, theyll last several months, possibly years? however, they will begin to lose potency over time
^No. 98% of mushrooms sold are dried... Most people I know store them in the freezer after they have dried out. I don't know how well this works, but most people I know do this. Anybody have any idea about this?
Ok I am reading a book right now called Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World, and it says: [...] most psilocybin mushrooms stored longer than a year usually show a significant loss of potency, especially in psilocin. The potency of species over the long term may also be a species-driven phenomenon. Some simply store better than others, for reasons not clearly understood. Other things it says are that P. semilanceata (liberty crap) holds potency very well, due to high psilocybin and low psilocin content (the latter is unstable), and that P. azurescens, if stored properly (out of sunlight and extreme temperatures) has the same potency 6 months after picking as it did upon picking.
no they dont, it even takes them years to lose potency so your good, just dont be stpuid and store them near a heater or constantly in light and youll be good, however if they werent dried properly then they will grow mold, but they were probably dried fine
