Alright well...... for some time now, I try to meditate almost everyday.. (or whenever I remember to) - which usually consists of me sitting in my room, on my bed, in silence, trying to empty my head for as long as possible. I love doing this -- it usually calms me down a great deal so I can fall asleep nicely.

well lastnight - I slept at my mother's house for the first time in a while. It was about 10pm and she was still awake - so I went to lay down in her bed because I sort of felt like being alone. I wasn't THAT tired though.. just in a mood to relax.

So I laid in her bed, turned out the lights, completely emptied my brain, (which occured a lot quicker than usual) and everything got sort of weird.

I was very relaxed, and before I knew it, my whole entire body was vibrating (or something) and I was flung in the air, in my mother's room. I heard a man's voice say "Priscilla, you're too heavy, let go."

For some reason in my head I interpreted this as let go of your fear... and I stayed relatively calm. Before I knew it I was hovering over this beautiful city (when I say beautiful, I mean the most beautiful place I've ever seen in my entire life-- with temples and palaces and hardly any people visible.) I heard a woman's voice singing in my head -- (very loudly) a beautiful song that I could not understand. I'm guessing she was speaking another language.

I enjoyed this journey in this sky, although I couldn't really make much sense of it. I remember thinking I wanted to talk to someone wise, who could explain what was happening.

At this time, I landed on the floor, in a beige room that sort of looked like a bedroom. There was a boy sitting in a chair.... who looked pretty average. He was not much older than me, and I don't think he saw me. At this point I actually got scared for some reason, and before I knew it, I was back in my mother's bed. I opened my eyes and realized I was back at home and for some reason I was smiling. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me -- and I fell immediately asleep after "returning."

This morning I woke up and have been thinking all day about how I hope to have another experience like this, soon. And hopefully I'll be able to make more sense out of the next one. I'm guessing I returned to my body after seeing this boy because I was filled with fear -- which ended my journey.

    Just felt like sharing.

Hypnagogic state, or sleep paralysis, often brings these sorts of vivid journeys.
Especially since you mentioned the vibrating effect, I have no dobut that this is what you experienced.
Usually when I get it, it feels like Im having a massive seizure, and then Im thrown into a dreamscape of nonsense and snapping turtles.

yes! I've had a seizure before, and it definitely reminded me of one. however, I was a lot calmer. and actually enjoying this experience..

do you think it happened because I was laying down down? or is it possible to achieve a similar experience sitting upright, meditating, with my eyes closed?

Definitley because you were lying down. It almost always happens to me when I lay on my back. Rarely when Im on my side, but it can still happen.

yeah, that's what I was questioning the other day. I had one on my side, and it was sort of like a "wtf was that" moment, because it changes the experience a little.

But to be honest priscilla, my thoughts on this subject are pretty simple. I think of sleeping as a suspended state for your body, it enters this state so your "soul" or whatever we want to call it can return to the astral realms, in order to recharge itself to be able to continue living on this plane. Everyone loves sleep. You love this state, because being in this state is a direct and natural way to be closer to God.

You've simply become conscious of this reality, probably due to the fact that your meditation has probably had some sort of increasing affect on your awareness.

BTW John, I'm sure you are aware of the differences of REM sleep versus non-REM sleep. Do you think the dream state is reflective of the astral realm, while non-REM sleep is reflective of the causal?

yeah. it seemed like much of a bigger deal to me before I typed it all out, reread it, and got feedback. (haha)

the woman's singing was so incredibly beautiful though.

    yup

I experienced the same exact thing. I don't know who she is, and you can never get a glimpse of her. I remember the very first time I heard her, was simultaneously the first time I ever experienced hypnagogia. I was stuck in sleep paralysis for what seemed like at least a few hours, during which, there was an extremely beautiful female voice right next to my ear, singing a song of horrifying beauty. It was an odd mixture of emotions, because on one hand, I had absolutely no clue what was happening to me, but on the other hand, her song was so entrancing.

It was either some sort of strange, angelic language, or what she was singing about was so profound that my mind blocked it out and wont allow me to remember.

Nice experience! It's fascinating, I've not had anything quite like this happen.

I practice daily on such a "Sophia" if you will. Call her saraswati. I project some vibe which is hard to explain. Grandmother spirit. Baby sister. Lover. Friend. Nothing but the wall of silence facing oneself as their own self. This supreme being is something like a raquetball court and the energy you put out is whay you get back. I can't explain well, but we have thoughts all the time. hateful anngry thoughts , so on, why not we take some angle and produce positive thoughts. In this way we better ourselves. Easiest way is sadhana from respected guru or oneself. I chose my own deity and stuck with her - yes - Saraswati. I'm happy for it. Others do this sadhana. It is dedicated to all. So I guess people get the benefits when they are on that level.
