My therapist wants me to go on them. I'm conflicted. I hear they're bad. Are they? Or should I just take them?

there are a lot of variables in there. i didn't want to take any for years... the first ones i took made me "retarded". the one i'm taking now seems to be working okay.. and it's a low dosage. you might only need therapy and no drugs..

Well I guess i'll maybe try them out and see? I want to regress to a younger age. These decisions are too hard.

take them for a while and see how you react. if they become a problem, taper off and stop taking them.
some people will undoubtedly tell you not to, with their stupid hippy "pharmaceuticals are bad" shit but listen to me instead.
    what kind are they?

I'm not a fan. I've been on all kinds of them and they really can be bad news. They can also really help. What's your gut feeling about it?

Got it pops. I do not know yet. I see my doctor on Thursday. I remember I took adderall for a while until it started making me all kinds of anxious and panicky.

Honestly. I'm indifferent to either way. But that's how I am most of the time these days. Indifferent.

That depends. There are many out there and no one anti-depressant works for all people. It's a trial and error process to find the one that works for you. There is about a 2 week adjustment period that you'll feel squirrely, but after that you shouldn't feel anything other than not being depressed or anxious.

You're about to hear a lot of uneducated opinions by morons.

No, their neither good nor bad. SSRI's are chemicals which alter your neurology. They alter your neurology by preventing the reuptake of serotonin, so it stays in the neuron longer. Among other things, serotonin is a major regulator of mood, and when you have more of it biologically available, your mood is generally increased.

It's not a long term happiness maker. That's not what happiness is. It elevates your mood. Also your body eventually get's used to it, and it loses all effectivness after a few months. It becomes as effective as placebo.

    http://medicine.plosjournals.org/pe...ocument&doi=10.1371/journal.pmed.0050045&ct=1

It might have the effect of increasing your mood for a while. Which can be helpful. But look at it like this. If you're taking asparin for a wound, but keep hitting yourself with a hammer every day.

The asparin is going to stop working well after a while and your hammer wound will get infected. If you don't carefully... eventually come to terms with the things that are making you unhappy in the long run.

    Taking them can be useess.

In my mind they can be temporarily usefull and should always be combined with other forms of treatment. Specifically thereapy.

What you want to do is up to you. I have no advice for you. I'm not a doctor. I do with you all the best.

ugh yeah adderall is crazy shit. my dr. gave me that stuff and I took one dose and was like never again! I'm not into uppers. It's basically meth. I'm sure they'll put you on something much more benign. Just make sure you ask lots of questions and be informed about what you're going on. If you're sensitive to meds and other things ask for something that you can use a pill splitter with, basically anything but a time release dose will work. And of course work with your doctor. If he/she's cool they'll totally work with you toward getting you something that works.

Why do you need it just out of curiosity?

Need the depression medication? I've been suffering from the pain of depression for years. The adderall? I think I was just incorrectly diagnosed with ADD because I wasn't honest about my depression symptoms.

I'll also be in therapy. I have such a wonderfully amazing therapist. She's funny and she chortles. She doesn't laugh she chortles.

yeah they gave it to me too for add. I actually liked ritalin... but it made me lose weight. I've also been on most of the older ssri's and some other drugs. lode's pretty much on the mark. they will alter your fundamental brain chemistry so you'll definitely know your on it. I even noticed after I was "acclimated" to them. So if you need a pick me up for a time or something give it a shot. it's all about what works for you. If you try it and don't like it stop taking 'em.

You might also want to check into nutrition. There's a whole lot you can do for mood stabilization and mood elevation that doesn't require pharmaceutical enhancement. Less stress on your body and cheaper. You can do that stuff while on anti depressants as well. So you know just keep asking questions and use your friendly interwebs, you'll be right as rain in no time. :)

That and it's ok to feel down sometimes. I think we get stuck into having to feel good all the time. I for one have found great freedom in feeling whatever it is I feel. And drugs did help me for a while. So you know whatevs and good luck. :)
