Alright, so i just moved into a new house and upon getting there i had to wait 3-4days for the TV/Internet dude to get here. He came and got the net hooked up today Router is on and lights are glowing. The problem is my laptop has been picking up other peoples wireless internet in the neighborhood, but it WONT pick up my own router that is directly downstairs. hope someone can figure this out :cheers2:

Try setting the laptop within 10 feet of the router. This would test to see if the router is actually working.

Do you know the SSID and whether or not the SSID is hidden?

I had a couple suggestions and went into my router. It is picking up my router now. but the problem is, i am directly a floor above the router and my laptop only has ONE signal bar.... this is very annoying it loses connection and pages can take 2-3 minutes to load instead of 3-5 like my high speed is suppose too.

Alright, you just have some bad interference. Try moving the router to another location.

Also, set your wireless NIC card to use the 802.11b network instead. The B network has a farther signal range than the G. It is more reliable too. I've had to use B instead of G when other people have had this problem.
