Does smoking opium lead to lung cancer?

I'de say opium is no where near as bad as tobacco......but does it lead to lung cancer? Bud won't lead to lung cancer because of the thc that kills cancerous cells......although opium may not have a chemical that kills cancerous cells like thc I havn't seen a case of an opium only (or opium and bud) lung cancer story.

Bud-opium bowls are the most relaxing. The opium really smoothes out the bud.

 

I'd say the question is pretty impossible to answer, it'd all be based on conjecture. One person could say "I've smoked opium and bud all my life and I don't have lung cancer" but would it prove that they can't cause lung cancer in another person? Someone else could say "I've smoked Opium all my life and I have lung cancer" but their lung cancer could be caused by 2nd hand cigarette smoke, pollution or genetics etc. I doubt there's any scientific studies done because most people who smoke opium probably have probably smoked all kinds of other stuff, there'd be too many factors involved, and it'd be hard to find a consistent group of only opium smokers... +we don't fully understand the causes of cancer anyway.

IMO just be reasonable with it and you should be fine

Dude, seriously, at least learn what you're talking about with THC. THC doesn't kill anything, it's just non carcinogenic meaning it doesn't cause cancer in thefirst place.

Anyways, I will do some research when I get back, I just wanted to post that little bit of info on THC I found with one search and 10 seconds, I will find more about that later too. Marijuana isn't completely safe, as everybody would like to believe.

^^I agree, I'm pretty sure smoke isn't very good for your lungs. But to what degree I'm not sure. It dosen't have to be cancerous to be harmfull to your lungs..

The general consensus on inhaling smoke is its bad for you. I would think if you inhale anything other than air for long periods of time your shit is gonna be fucked. My 2c.

Also, if you could read, you would realize that it never said THC causes cancer. I simply was pointing out that it's not as safe as you and all the other potheads claim it to be.

Uhh actually it is very safe, yes there are short term lung problems that some (although I do not) get but it isn't the same as the long term risk of lung cancer. Or any other type of cancer. Yes it has to do with THC killing deformed cancerous cells. That is what Dr. Tashkin found out;

And since opium isn't smoked in the quantities pot is usually smoked perhaps there is much less risk in it for lung cancer. Since the thc doesn't counteract the cancerous properties of smoke it may lead to it at high doses I'm thinking.

 

I NEVER SAID POT CAUSES CANCER! Jesus. I said inhaling ANY kind of smoke is harmful, that includes Cannabis. To what extent, I don't know, nor care, because I don't smoke Marijuana. My point is, is that it's not entirely safe. Why does everyone go after me for repeating what 3 people on this thread already said?

 

The thread is called 'Does smoking opium lead to lung cancer?'. I assumed you meant over time. So maybe smoking it once doesnt, and I dont know if smoking it regularly can give you lung cancer per se, but in general if you inhale smoke on a regular basis it cant be good for you. Smoke is the particles in the substance going to your lungs, and not all those particles get absorbed, because if they did you wouldnt blow out ANYTHING. So there will be some kind of residue left over, no matter what you smoke. Not to mention all the additional stuff that ISNT what you want.

Smoking anything is bad for you. Doesnt mean Im not going to do it, but you shouldnt do anything without knowing the risks anyway.

 

Also, as posted in the information I found...THC is held in for longer then most other things that are smoked, which increases the time for harmful chemicals and tar to get into the lungs.

which is dumb.. because you don't need to "hold in" marijuana smoke any longer than a drag of a cig for the THC to be absorbed.. the second that smoke enters your lungs all its chemicals are absorbed/filtered and fed into the blood stream... its just what the stupid stoners think..

 

PS: i smoke tons of pot.. but at least i know my shit about it...

2) marijuana does not "cure" anything though it does alleviate a lot of symptoms for a lot of different diseases
3) marijuana does not "cure" cancer.. though studies have showed it helps slow and even hinder cancer growth..
4) marijuana will never be legal.. get over it
