For me I was about 3 years old, and I remember asking my mom "Why is a car called a car?" She couldn't come up with an answer and finally said, "you'll learn about that in college when you're older, it's called (etymology)" (but I think she said something else not etymology). After that I would always try to come up with questions that she didn't know the answer to (there were a lot) and I would invent my own possible solutions and tell them to her. It was kind of a game we had.

Well 23 years down the line I'm in college and I've never seen a class about etymology, and I still don't know why a car is called a car! although I have learned lots of other useful things. I think realizing that adults don't know everything sparked my interest in creative writing and invention at a young age. What about you?

Lol now that I think about it, it's probably from the word "carriage"... but where is that from?

As you get older, you keep finding out that your parents know a whole hell of a lot more than you always gave them credit for

I totally agree with this. I always knew that my parents weren't perfect but now that I'm getting older I see that my parents are more enlightened than I had originally thought. My parent's are pretty smart. They have a "good" life. Good paying jobs that they have to work their asses off at. I guess when i was a lot younger I thought they knew everything. I kind of lived in a bubble until I was about 16, I was very protected and sheltered. Once I started to live my own life and get out of the house I started to see that sometimes they just didn't have the answers I needed and that I had to work through things on my own. I rely a lot on my parents, even now. But, I was always pretty realistic about their intelligence. I knew they were smarter than me, but I knew that they didn't have all of life's answers.

I never thought my parents knew anything. Then I discovered that my mom knows a lot, my dad also knows a lot, but nothing that has any value to me.

I don't know when I realized they didn't know everything but I've always had utmost respect for them both and know that while they don't know everything, they know a helluva lot more than I do, so I can forgive that they're not all-knowing. Daniel, though...he's going to impress our kids. Because almost everything I've ever asked him, he's known the answer to. Of course, he doesn't know everything, no one does, but he knows just about everything that I want to know about. Haha.
