Who else has seen this and thought it was totally bad ass? The guy from Clockwork Orange, Malcom McDowell plays Caligula, the mad young roman emporer, and the movie is incredibly realistic, I think at least. It shows how the Roman Empire really was, sensual and hedonistic and pagan and all. It kind of makes you wish that our culture was comparable to theirs. Anyway, I highly reccomend this movie.
I saw the uncut version of this once... I haven't seen the 'clean' edit version though, so I don't know if the explicit scenes actually added anything to the film, or were just added for shock value... My thoughts tend to sway towards the latter..
I don't think they were added for 'shock value', I think they were put in because they wanted to show the realism of the roman empire. I have the uncut version, I don't even want to imagine what the edited version is like, cause they probably rip the movie to shreds. Dumb bastards, they can't just realize that that movie is art, and not porn. Whatever, they can take their 'purity' and stick it up their ass, as the roaring Dionysusian mob flies by their weak and pale 'morality'. Such said Nietzsche.
