Hi everyone! I just got my dreads yesterday by backcombing.(and i didnt use wax) They are really frizzy on the top at the roots, is there anything I can do or use to help the frizz? I was wondering if anyone knows of some residue free shampoo that I could get at a local store (not online) like rite aid or something or anything I can make at home? When is it ok to start washing them and how often? And also what would I use tea tree oil for cuz in one of the threads someone mentioned putting tea tree oil on them. THanks for the help:D. I was going to post a pic of them on here but i cant figure out how

teateree oil helps itches when used lightly it also deters bugs its anticeptic it can dry scalp tho if overused
frizz love it n leave it or if u really beed a cleanup for a gformal afaitr use onluy 100% pure aloe gel
soap dr bronners or arm and hammer baking soda (read 1st post of the wax removal sticky its the deep clkeasnse many use) wash when u feel u needto, weekly or so is best

some like to start with others and use teetree as needed...wouldnt go to fests shows places where bugs maybe a prob without teetree tho

    Hai :D
This part of hipforums seeem really nice, like everyone is most friendly here.
Anyway, I'm just starting to dread my hair. I've been reading a lot on here the last few months so I know not to use wax etc. and the best way is to just leave it. But I'm going the backcombing route, just because i have to look vaguely respectable for work while I'm doing this lol!

Sooo I have probably missed this somewhere in my reading, but I have to wear my hair tied back for work, I work 4 or 5 days a week sometimes more.. is this going to harm the process at all? Should I tie it back really loosly with what kinda band?

To tie your hair tightly wouldn't harm it as such, but the key to knotting is movement, so a broad loose-ish headband would be good. There's a dready headwear thread on here somewhere... Or maybe try just a couple of hair grips, which would be enough to keep your hair off your face.
Lol I just had the idea of wearing a snood... :p

Haha cool, how about a bit hair clip? or should you not stick things in the dreads like the comby bits would.. hmm..
I'm halfway through backcombing at the moment, my arms ache.

Well I sometimes clip my hair out of the way with those clips on springs with comb-like jaw thingies. Is that the sort you mean? Doesn't seem to have done any harm to my dreads. Even hair pins and grips are fine too, if you're a bit careful taking them in and out. Sometimes a great big head band is just too hot etc.

    Oh cool thread, thanks :)

Right just one more question before I go to bed.. I think I have read to not wash backcombed hair for about a week after it's first done. Is that true?
I'd like to wash my hair in the next day or so, it gets greasy quite fast and it's gonna get all slidey and not dread if I leave it a week.
Shall I just wash it tomorrow anyway? Or wait until Tuesday?

It doesn't matter when you wash, you should do so when YOU feel like it needs a wash. You'll end up doing it anyway and washing usually involves a good scrubbin' and movement = knots and knots = good.

srry been away a week welcome danni and all new ppl,
on the hair tie thing, if your hairs long enoutfgh simply tie 1 dread aroiund the others..
    ifg its not a headband
a thin or rubber band will hurt u some but wont kill ya but itsa best tio use something looser
i wouldnt advise those clips but again they wont kill u only hurt u alittle
the absolute best thing wouldbe use a dread to tie the resat though

on washing if its greasy fasty wash but try alittle thyme to regulate oil production and try extending it a day lomger then is confy, the less u wash the less oil will be producesd try to slowly work towards once a week if possible
u can wash more if need be though

    Thanks soaringeagle :)
I'm about to wash it now, so I've waited a day or two after I started to think I really need to wash it. It's getting pretty itchy now.
