About two weeks ago I sectioned and back combed part of my hair, since then I have taken out the elastic bands, and just continued to wash with the Dr. Bronners. (no brushing) I have noticed that the ones that I have backcombed have pretty much unravelled, but I was kinda expecting that. At the moment, there is a bit of a birds nest happening on the back of the top part. I am curious to know when I should expect to see something to reassure me that I am doing it right? I don't care how long, I would just like to know roughly how long until I should start seeing some signs. If I am washing my hair once every three days or so, would that be enough?
i have heard that after back combing you are supposed to wait as long as you can to wash your hair for the first time, i waited 2 weeks and then washed mine under a nylon stocking so they didnt come undone im pretty sure (correct me if im wrong luxiebow) but she waited a month before washing her hair for the first time
Enough with the "you shouldn't wash your hair" for this long or that long. Just wash it when you feel that it needs it. Your hair has to be clean to knot up.
hahaha again missed this wash it when u wanna wash theres no reason to wait ever it helps to slowly work up to once a week onlyu because when theytre mature they are a choore to wash about how long till u see progress? youir seeing it now that messiness is knots forming how long till they look like dreads? well how longs youir hair it can take months otr weeks theres nothing to say how long yours will take..it takes as long as it takes and is happening before youir eyes but if u check progfress daily its hard to see insrtead check progress monthly..like a time lapsed photo a slow process seems quicker the less often u check it
To sum up. Wash when you feel necessary. Many of us wash once to twice a week, others not so often. *thumbs up*
The whole top is all knotting....I'm not sure how to seperate it. I mostly leave it tied back, but when I let it out it looks like I stuck my finger in a power point! It has been a month now since I stopped brushing. I only back combed some of it. I'm washing maybe once or twice a week at the moment, maybe longer. There have been moments where I just want to brush it out and go and get it professionally done ( I know that isn't right) but I'm hanging in there, I mean it is only just been a month! I have such an issue with patience. My daughter started school this year, and I've signed up to be involved in fundraising and such, it is interesting my issues with appearance around the other "professional" mothers...
feel for clumps that are forming together (or if a clumps huge pull it apart into 2 or more clumps) seperate each clump from eachother, especialy after washing thats when they knot the most take a clump in each hand and pull in oposite directions ripping connecting hairs between if they are already too thck and tight to pull apsart, work uopir fingers under a few hairs and pull up (might hurt) till it breaks or comes loose repeat till u get to the scalp your on the right track and doing grreast just some take longer then others ive seen them look like real dreads in 2 weeks others taker months you can help it aliong with beads, sea salyt sprays wool hats to neatten things uop for professional times, rull each 1 with aloe vera on your ha ds to smooth it out then tie it back \or wear a hat/bandana/headband since its really knotting up weell at this point you should mostly be concerned with keeping the sections from merging too much if u do that..and maybe add some beads im betting another month will really increadse the progress and youll see real dreading starting your in the middle of the infant stage approaching toddler when they start to look like dreads, but definatelyy baby dreads if u need more detailed info feel free to ask always glad to help but id tonight do a magor seperating session, get the clumps into clearly defined sections then u can just do it as lil maintanance here and there breaking just as few connectinmg hairs pics would help tho and beads..toss some beads in some sections and your sure to see the progress increase a ton
Just found this quite informative timeline, although it technically started with backcombing...all that fell out so essentially it's natural. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sand_and_sky/sets/72157606537465279/
my freind chevies dreads happened so incredibly fast, week 1 she went to wash her hair in the stream, came back with 3 or 4 little funky dreads (slightly ballish on the ends, kinda thin ziggy zaggy) another week wentby, another washing and theyre were tice as much for 2 months irt looked kinda crazy like that, strangly formed dreads. alotta loose hairs all around em.. thin, and crazy after 2 months they thickened up, tightened up and even ed out, into really awesome dreads. shes now at 2 years and thats how they look today shes trying to get earluy pics, but needs to find a scanner
