All I did is section my hair, twisted the sections, and took the bands off... its been three days and feels pretty solid, my hair is very curley and im hoping it will start looking like dreads in a few months Let me know what you think... cheers
Im not twisting anymore, if one is really loose id twist it a bit, but ya im not gonna do anything else, just let it be... im wearing a light toque when I sleep, only for the first couple of days, I didnt wash my hair yet, probably will wash it after a week or two and do some sort of rinse as well, salt water, lemon, maybe olive oil!!!!!
Thanks... im hoping I would get curly dreadlocks if I leave it alone I'm not putting anything on my hair until I read and learn about it, still researching the sea salt, lemon rinse, and the bakin soda methods!! but it will be a week or two before I wash
Good to know, how undone did they come?? what did you do to start your locks?? I was thinking they will probably get pretty undone if I showered with pressure, so I will probably spray shampoo them gently and then do a bath and soak them in water, and do a treatment rinse ... im not gonna use any knotty boy, dreadheadhq stuff!! still looking for a combination of natural ingredients that would work for me
mine were backcombed quite loosely, i didnt wear anything on my head while washing (some people like to put the foot part of tights over their head), they came undone enough for me to cry about it =] it felt like the end of the world tbh. the idea behind washing is to wash the scalp, not so much the dreads. the soapy water will rinse thru yer dreads anyway, but its the scalp thatll need the attention the most and i used KBoy cause i was misinformed =[ wax n all..
I thought it was more about washing the actual hair, cause I heard quite a bit about dirty smelly dreads and mold and stuff.... I guess it kinda makes sense that the scalp should be the focus...
yeah, washing the dreads comes with washing the scalp, as i said, the soapy water should run thru yer dreads, thus cleaning them nicely =]
wow... they look awesome for just twisting, how much did you twist em? i like your pictures, very artsy fartsy XD you should definitely try sea salt water in a spray bottle, but avoid spraying your scalp... it can be pretty irritating. if you don't get any uncomfortable stuff on your scalp.. i like to leave it on over night. are they locking up already?
thanks guys... I just twisted them until they formed a loopy hair ball around my head, left each one for around 3-5 min and untwisted them... then the second day I twisted some of them after I removed the bands, but that was it... they are coming along really nice, the ones in the back are much better than the top of my head, I think they are locking up pretty well, I seperated one of them into two and the hair was kinda locked, I mean they are sooooo loose but I feel they are locking and I know the process takes months Thanks for the sea salt advise, I will do that the night before I wash my hair I guess cheers
those are super cute! sounds like youre starting a patience method journey with sectioning already in place... cool. theres no way my hair would stay like that lol. where in canada are you?
*blush* thanks for the encouragement guys... you called my little twisties dreads I know itll take lots of patience... I want my hair to be a part of my personal growth, and watch it go through emotions and stuff with me, break apart and come together and stuff... Today a guys asked me if I was doing a rasta!!!! lol, it cracked me up... Im loving how my hair is making me see how dumb some people are Scatteredleaves you are gorgeous, love the picture, and your hair is wow... Im in Montreal now but leaving in 3 months...
hey zilla, how much sea salt do you add to water... can you tell me a little more about what you do? do you rise after? I think im gonna do that pretty soon...
