Do you think someone can be a free spirited flower child even if they don't use drugs?

    Why or why not?

People can be hippies and not get high, but if you get high I'll have a lot more to talk about and do with you. Its just a choice I just hope everyone makes the right decision.

Nobody can really be a free spirited flower child anymore... Hippies actually did a "death of the Hippie" ceremony after Altamont.. I don't know why people want to recreate that..There really was no order, and that's why it fell apart, making the Hell's Angels the police force and all that.. anybody you consider a hippie now that wasn't from the 60's is just some new age trender..

the whole hippie movement in the 60's started with LSD/drugs anyway

The (true) hippies were about more than drugs, and fight the power and shit. It was about learning to live with love and making the world so much better.

LSD and getting high and drugs just tend to help people on a spiritual journey. Think of drugs as a key to the subconcious. I do drugs, but i love people and stand against war even when I'm not tripping bawls.

But at the moment i am tripping balls. I love you all man, <3.

You can have the hippy mindset without doing drugs, but at least doing drugs a couple times to know what it's like and how it affects/expands your mind helps a lot.

The doors to perception can only be unlocked by LSD.

All the hippie bullshit apart: of course someone can be a free spirited flowerchild without drugs. Not everyone I guess. And the time you're living in has nothing to do with this. You're truly one misguided 'hippie person' if you think that.

They must certainly can. This statement sort of seems like a good ol' case of common classifications and generalizations to me.

I disagree, LSD is one of the ways to open the doors of perception, but there are several others, and I think they work better when you combine them in an balanced way. Think of meditation, artistic creation, contemplation, love, at least I feel I have opened the doors of perception and spirituality with those, and I've never done LSD. Each mind is different, so each mind has it's own way.

To me a true hippie is an individual who works to prevent lies, deception and all things that are designed to convert free thinking individuals into suburbanites.

anything else is just a subcategory of "hippie". The pot, music, art, dress. Those are all things that if you strip away you still have a free spirited individual.

The key word is "spirit". You're spirit is what makes you, not what goes on on the outside of the body. The spirit, however, can push you towards a certain style, music or drug.

Certain drugs influence your 'spirit' so indirectly makes you as well. I think it helped creating some cliché hippies for sure :D

I don't see why a person has to take drugs to be considered a hippy.I prefer the natural high.

You really don't. Drugs do seem to boost your beliefs but I really don't think drugs have to be a part of it at all.
