Well my brothers and sisters, the time is nearly here, the anxiety is on the verge of cessation and we, the unfortunate "in-betweeners" are about to have a tour of our own. The multitudes of deadheads which, due to whatever mysterious quirk of fate, were born too late to be able to attend a dead show during the '65 to '95 heyday. I am 25 years old. I know the lyrics to nearly every dead song, can play some of them on my guitar, and have been "one of the family" since my first (dead tribute band name here) show. How many of me are there? Born too late, too late for the epic freewheeling burns across the country of the 70s or the hazy, heady time of the '80s in which I was concieved... at a Dead show. How many times have I cursed the stars and the day of my birth for not giving me just ONE year with Jerry, so I could have seen WITH MY OWN EYES the legendary performances of the greatest American band ever. In the words of my generation... DENIED! :Epic FAIL: My family, these are lucky days indeed, and they may be our last chance! This year may in fact be the winter of the age of the Dead. The music, the tour, the band, the lot, the faimly, the electricity... It's coming to an end. Do you feel it? Have you known, had that feeling creep up your spine and indo your skull... it's just about to... it's just about to... Stop. I'm so lucky, that in this great age of CHANGE and technology, that I might have the opportunity to go and witness the music which has so lovingly shaped me and my concept of reality. I need a little help, too, if any of you can assist, with a certain strange request... let me explain. I am a writer, and I need a viable excuse to follow the tour and take a month-long hiatus from school and work... Actually just school. I'm in college, an english major in fact, and I have come up with this plan... If I can be granted status as a "member of the press" I could actually have a reason to follow the tour that would coincide with my major, and allow me a chance to take the time away from the classroom that I need. I would have to say, this, would be a "Dream Job" to be a journalist, and follow the dead, with the ability to bring my enthusiasm for this music, and this life, to the rest of the world. Do any of you have a friend, family member, fellow deadhead, or connection that you could somehow help me realize this aspiration. Believe me when I say that I intend to exhaust all possibilites to succeed, but how amazing would it be if one of you here, an east-coaster perhaps, could simply give me the name of an uncle who writes for some lowly paper, and by some miracle... or work of fate... assist me in some way.
ill be there when they pass through north carolina! i think it's in the beginning of april? this is really going to be quite a summer. lets make history. EDIT: you know, the tickets are actually pretty steep. so i guess ill just wait and see.
Hey man my situation is just like you im a college kid whos religion is well deadhead.. My parents were both huge deadhead traveling the country to see them and i just wish i could have seen jerry in person soo badly.. I will be seeing The Dead in Philly when they come on May 2nd im sure its going to be a blast!! I have also been too a good amount of cover band shows including Dark Star Orchestra (who i love), Ratdog, and Phil Lesh and Friends hopefully il see ya there
Same situation. Had to pass up on the Dead, just too expensive. But I did manage to see Dark Star twice when they came around FL so I at least got something. But yeah of course we all would have wanted to see Jerry but that's not why were here. Our love for the Dead and quality Jams and incredible guitar playing by Jerry is our essential framework for the new Jam band scene(where ever the hell it is). I play in a cover band( www.myspace.com/largeharlequin ) and we practically just play Dead, we've been playing a year but just barely starting out. The biggest problem is we can't find any of you dead heads or anyone really who recognizes quality Jam music. So I say we need bands like DSO and Crazy Fingers and other just quality Jam bands that bring the quality and intensity and style like the good old Grateful Dead. Everything happens for a reason, and for some reason we're here now.
urg.....the closest they pay is in NY, which is a 1h, 34min drive according to google. I dont know if i want to be nostalgic, or if id rather avoid driving 3 hours for a concert tht probabl lasts less. (especially since i am not going to be driving if on any substances). hmmm...any hipforum-ers host couchsurfing in that area? That may be a good way for others to find a place to crash thier drug-addled bodies after the concert... EDIT:upon inspection, the NY concert takes place during the last 4 days of our examination period. (which is like 2 weeks). that means there is like a 15% chance that it would cause my to miss an exam (impossible). Not cool on the scheduling guys, not cool....
